Company Overview

Ohmium International

Fremont, CA, United States

2019

Approximately 550 employees (source: linkedin.com). Total funding raised of $311.2 million as of 2023 (source: cbinsights.com).

What They Do

Ohmium specializes in the production of green hydrogen through advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. These electrolyzers utilize water and renewable energy sources to generate high-purity hydrogen without relying on fossil fuels (source: ohmium.com). Their flagship product, the Lotus Mark 2 electrolyzer, features a hyper-modular design that includes a centralized water purification unit, glycol-based cooling, and proprietary power electronics, all integrated into a compact footprint that allows for vertical stacking and deployment in various climates (source: ohmium.com). The company offers services such as global remote monitoring and maintenance, ensuring scalability from megawatt to gigawatt levels through standardized designs manufactured in India (source: ohmium.com). Target markets include industrial applications, power generation, and transportation fuels, focusing on sectors that are challenging to decarbonize across the U.S., Europe, India, and the Middle East (source: ohmium.com). Ohmium's competitive edge lies in its high current density, dynamic ramping capabilities, and superior iridium utilization, positioning it favorably against industry competitors like ITM Power and Siemens Energy (source: ohmium.com).

Projects & Track Record

Ohmium has established a robust global project pipeline exceeding 2 GW, demonstrating its reliability in extreme conditions (source: ohmium.com). Among its notable projects is the supply of a 10 MW PEM electrolyzer for Croatia's INA Rijeka Refinery, which aims to decarbonize operations and fuel transport, supported by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (source: advancedbiofuelsusa.info). In Spain, Ohmium has committed to supplying up to 52 tons of green hydrogen annually for the EFFI SOLAR GREENH2 PORTUARIO project, which will replace methane in gas flares, significantly reducing CO2 emissions (source: ohmium.com). Additionally, the company signed a term sheet for 300 MW PEM electrolyzers for the OFFSET offshore floating green hydrogen and ammonia project in Southern Europe, with production expected by 2029 (source: canvasbusinessmodel.com). Ohmium's partnerships include collaborations with Invenergy for turbine cooling at the Nelson Energy Center and involvement in India's first green methanol plant (source: cbinsights.com).

Recent Developments

In 2023, Ohmium successfully raised $250 million in Series C financing led by TPG Rise Climate, aimed at scaling manufacturing to 2 GW annual capacity and expanding R&D efforts (source: esgtoday.com). This followed a $45 million Series B round in April 2022, bringing total funding to $311.2 million by late 2025 (source: cbinsights.com). The company also inaugurated a PEM electrolyzer gigafactory in India, which is expected to abate 4 million tons of CO2 annually (source: ohmium.com). In 2024, Ohmium secured a term sheet for a 300 MW project in Southern Europe and partnered for India's first green methanol plant, showcasing its commitment to expanding its footprint in the green hydrogen sector (source: canvasbusinessmodel.com). By 2025, Ohmium achieved UL Solutions' first industrial certification for hydrogen generators using water electrolysis, further solidifying its position in the market (source: ohmium.com).

Working There

Ohmium offers a diverse range of roles across engineering, manufacturing, operations, R&D, compliance, and executive positions, attracting talent from various sectors including electrolyzer and fuel cell technology (source: ohmium.com). The company is primarily hiring for its Fremont, California headquarters, with additional opportunities linked to its gigafactory in India and projects across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East (source: builtin.com). Ohmium's culture emphasizes innovative problem-solving, speed of execution, and a commitment to human rights compliance, reflecting its mission to advance efficient PEM technology (source: ohmium.com). While specific employee benefits are not publicly documented, the company promotes operational perks through roles in global remote monitoring and performance guarantees (source: ohmium.com). Job Description

As the Vice President of Systems Engineering, you will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the Systems Engineering organization, overseeing Balance of Plant (BoP) and mechanical system design. You will drive the execution of the product roadmap, ensuring our electrolyzer systems meet performance, reliability, cost and compliance requirements. This role is responsible for scaling a high performance engineering organization capable of delivering world class system architectures that enable competitive, manufacturable and field proven hydrogen generation products.

Executive Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a best‑in‑class Systems Engineering organization encompassing BoP engineering, mechanical design, system architecture, system modeling and subsystem integration.
  • Establish a long‑term organizational vision while also creating the operational rigor required to execute aggressively on near‑term program milestones.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, cross‑functional ownership and continuous improvement.

Strategic Direction & Roadmap Execution

  • Own the technical execution of the product roadmap, ensuring system‑level designs evolve to meet future performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic leadership for all system‑level technologies supporting hydrogen electrolysis, including purification and drying, water treatment, cooling systems, ventilation systems and component selection.
  • Guide the development and maturation of advanced system modeling capabilities for performance simulation, optimization and prediction across a range of use‑case and operational conditions.

System Architecture & Design Integrity

  • Drive a holistic system‑architecture approach ensuring all subsystems-mechanical, electrical, stack, controls-integrate seamlessly to deliver reliable, high‑performing electrolyzer systems.
  • Mature best practices around PFD/P&ID development, subsystem optimization, component selection and subsystem testing.
  • Ensure system designs meet or exceed all product requirements, performance specifications, safety standards and regulatory expectations.

Cost, Quality, and Execution Accountability

  • Lead cost‑out initiatives through system simplification, component optimization, supplier development and design‑for‑manufacture strategies.
  • Ensure the Systems Engineering organization delivers against key schedule, budget and quality milestones across multiple programs running in parallel.
  • Implement processes to proactively identify, mitigate and manage technical risks across the product lifecycle.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, Stack Engineering, Controls, Compliance, Manufacturing and Program Management to ensure alignment and execution of cross‑functional deliverables.
  • Ensure clear communication and technical transparency throughout the organization-including escalation of risk, assessment of alternatives and recommendation of optimal system‑level solutions.

Global Standards & Compliance

  • Oversee system‑level compliance for global markets (ISO, EU, US), ensuring products are engineered to meet all required safety, environmental and quality standards.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical/Chemical or a related engineering discipline.
  • 18+ years of engineering experience with at least 10 years in technical leadership roles, including ownership of multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record delivering complex systems into production environments at scale.
  • Deep experience in mechanical systems, heat transfer, fluid flow, system integration and component selection.
  • Demonstrated success driving cost reduction, system optimization and high‑reliability product development.
