Job Description

The role holder will be the local subject matter expert in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), agentic AI and large-scale language model (LLM) platforms and services, accelerating the adoption and migration to cloud solutions that enable the Digital Transformation of ScottishPower aligned to the Iberdrola Group goals. You will advise on the design, development and implementation of services, platforms and solutions based on GenAI and Cloud required by the group's businesses, from a multi cloud perspective, specifically AWS and Azure. You will work with the AI enablement hub to develop strategic plans for the evolution and improvement of ScottishPower's GenAI environments, ensuring the secure management of corporate systems.

There will also be a focus on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of GenAI data and services, ensuring compliance with the Iberdrola Group's policies and regulations, as well as sectoral regulations and market standards. This will be reflected in the definition and implementation of controls and metrics that allow evaluating and ensuring their correct implementation and compliance.

What you'll be doing

  • Standards Enforcement - understanding, communication and education on appropriate technical standards within the relevant technology domain
  • Design - reviewing and approving the design of solutions within the generative AI domain, ensuring compliance with Group standards and direction
  • Supplier Management - developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers to keep up to date on new developments and advances that could be incorporated into ScottishPower's service offering
  • Technical Consultancy - providing technical expertise to assist with the resolution of escalated operational problems and restoration of service to customers
  • Change Management - reviewing and approving technology domain related changes to the IT estate, in accordance with the Change Management process, as required by operational or security requirements
  • Capacity Planning - assessing and acting on FinOps suggestions for platform and service resizing to realise efficiencies in deployed platforms while ensuring that all known factors affecting future performance are addressed through plans for upgrades, enhancements, etc.
  • Technical input to architectural planning - utilising relevant expertise to ensure that architectural plans and budgets reflect the activities and investment required to move from the current state to the desired state
  • Technical support for Procurement activities - utilising technical expertise to ensure that products or services being procured meet the required technical and security standards
  • Technical Leadership - key member of Digital Transformation Cloud Centre of Competency, providing technical leadership and guidance to multiple projects

What you'll bring

The Iberdrola group is an AWS-first organisation; however, Azure is also a strong part of the cloud infrastructure estate. The skills listed below will focus on AWS, however demonstrable experience and skill on the Azure equivalents will also be considered.

  • Strong Kubernetes (EKS) management for deploying AI models in containerized environments
  • Implementation of serverless architectures using AWS Lambda for AI inference
  • Cost optimization leveraging AWS Compute Optimizer, Cost Explorer, and Reserved Instances
  • CI/CD pipeline implementation with AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins for automated AI model deployments
  • Advanced monitoring with Amazon CloudWatch
  • Efficient log management using AWS CloudTrail, Amazon OpenSearch, and ELK Stack
  • Infrastructure automation using Terraform
  • Amazon SageMaker: Development, training, optimization, and deployment of AI models in scalable environments
  • Amazon Bedrock: Integration of generative AI models into applications and automation of AI workflows
  • Experience in one or more of the AWS AI services such as Lex, Polly, Rekognition, Textract, OpenSearch etc.
  • Expertise with AWS data services: Glue, Athena, and Data Lake on S3.
  • Application of AWS security best practices with AWS IAM, AWS KMS, AWS WAF, and AWS Shield
  • Configuration of private VPCs for sensitive models and data protection using AWS PrivateLink.
  • Hands-on experience with serverless architectures, microservices, and containers
  • Excellent communication skills and able to operate at both a technical and senior managerial level
  • Influencing of colleagues, both in Spain and the UK will be an important aspect of the job and the role holder must be able to demonstrate an inter-personal style that strikes a good balance between being collaborative and direct/determined
  • Networking with peers and business IT suppliers will be an essential ingredient to this job to ensure that technology decisions are based on a range of information sources
  • English is the group Global language, however a proficiency in Spanish would be advantageous

Desirable Criteria

One or more of the following certifications is desirable:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional
  • AWS Certified Machine Learning - Associate or Specialty
  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner

Minimum Criteria

  • Record of academic achievement, including some form of recognised qualification from further education, such as a degree or diploma
  • Minimum five years working in a technical IT role
  • Minimum of two years of experience working on AI/Machine Learning projects in the cloud
  • Demonstrable knowledge of AWS and/or Azure technologies and services
  • Good oral and written communication skill
  • Ability to work under pressure (tight budgets, tight timelines, workload peaks, resourcing constraints)
  • Numerate and able to deal with finances for the purposes of providing accurate estimates of resource cost to projects and provide management reports on cloud usage costs
  • Willingness to travel by aircraft internationally on business
  • Driving licence
