About the role

Join AGL's Physical Markets Team and help build the real‑time software systems that drive how our generation fleet is traded and dispatched in the market. Our Trading Algorithm Development team designs and delivers the applications, services and algorithms behind automated battery bidding and next‑generation models and tools that support dispatch of AGL assets across the NEM.

You'll work in a lean, highly skilled group of engineers, quants and market specialists, building scalable, reliable, production‑grade systems that directly influence how AGL operates its 9,000 MW electricity and 100 PJ gas portfolio. As AGL targets 12 GW of new renewable and firming capacity by 2036, you'll play a key role in expanding the automation and software capabilities central to that growth.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing, developing and delivering software applications, algorithms and system components that enable automated bidding, asset operation and other energy trading capabilities
• Translating business and market requirements into reliable, scalable and maintainable solutions for real-time decision making and asset dispatch, while continuously improving performance and observability
• Engineering for safe and compliant operation by embedding business standards and regulatory obligations (including NER/NGR) into system design, testing and controls
• Owning your contributions across the team's applications, services and algorithmic systems - from early prototypes to fully supported production services - meeting reliability and operational expectations
• Collaborating with traders, analysts, engineers and technology teams to deliver high‑quality systems that enhance portfolio performance and operational efficiency

What You'll Bring

• Strong software engineering capability, including developing Python based production applications
• Proficiency with SQL, relational databases and modern data/BI tools
• Working knowledge of Azure, CI/CD, DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code
• Ability to solve complex technical problems and design scalable, maintainable solutions
• Experience with wholesale energy markets or trading algorithms (highly regarded)
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and business domains
• Experience mentoring others and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment
