Nordic Solar

Company Overview

Nordic Solar A/S, a subsidiary of NRGreen

Hellerup, Denmark

2010

Over 100 employees (source: nordicsolar.eu). Revenue of EUR 58.9 million in 2023 (source: nordicsolar.eu).

What They Do

Nordic Solar focuses exclusively on solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS), developing, constructing, and operating large-scale solar parks across Europe. The company manages the entire value chain from acquiring greenfield sites, land rights, permits, engineering, procurement, construction to integrating BESS and selling electricity (source: nordicsolar.eu). Its products include large solar parks with capacities in the hundreds of MWp, supplemented by BESS for storing excess energy, enhancing grid flexibility and supporting electrification. The parks take approximately 11 months to build and require minimal maintenance after operation (source: nordicsolar.eu). Target markets span growth regions in Europe, including Denmark, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and Lithuania, serving large-scale customers through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and direct sales (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Projects & Achievements

Nordic Solar has completed remarkable projects, including the largest solar park in Portugal, the Ínsua park in Alentejo, covering 80 hectares. In Lithuania, they built a 100 MWp park with over 150,000 bifacial modules, supplying around 28,000 households (source: detrasolar.com). Additionally, they have a project in Sweden at the Rottneros paper mill, built on a repurposed landfill site (source: regionvarmland.se). Currently, they are working on two nearly completed solar parks in Spain and Sweden, as well as four Swedish parks in partnership with Helios Nordic Energy (acquired in 2022) (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Nordic Solar has published its annual report for 2023, showing growth in its portfolio despite revenue declines from lower electricity prices. They secured a EUR 300 million debt facility for expansion and advanced BESS with 315 MW projects to be added before Q2 2024 (source: nordicsolar.eu). Q3 2024 results highlighted a production growth of 18% to 195 GWh, while prices were 24% lower, and two Spanish/Swedish parks were nearing completion (source: nordicsolar.eu). In Q2 2024, they included PPA/hedging sophistication and green additions, with expectations of 2024 revenues between EUR 57-69 million (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Working There

Nordic Solar employs over 100 people in 2023 across development, construction, operations, engineering, procurement, maintenance, finance, and management, with a team emphasizing diverse expertise to execute the entire value chain (source: nordicsolar.eu). The company maintains a fast pace, driven by CEO Nikolaj Holtet Hoff's ambition to accelerate Europe's energy transition, with skilled and dedicated employees driving the construction of multiple parks (source: nordicsolar.eu). We are looking for a PV & BESS Engineer to join our Project Engineering team within the EPC Department. In this role, you will contribute to the development, design, procurement, and construction of our growing solar PV and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) portfolio across Europe.

About the position

You are expected to take technical ownership of projects within the PV & BESS discipline and demonstrate a strong understanding of technical concepts for large-scale, ground-mounted solar PV plants, standalone BESS, and hybrid projects. This includes supporting permitting processes, conducting technical due diligence, managing EPC/EPCM deliverables, and overseeing construction activities to ensure compliance with technical, contractual, and quality requirements.

You will take responsibility for managing external engineering consultants and EPC/EPCM contractors, reviewing their technical documentation and supporting their construction activities, supporting supplier selection, and contributing to the technical development of the department. You will also support our Development team in analyzing new projects, preparing preliminary layouts, and assessing early-stage feasibility using tools such as RatedPower, PVSyst and PVcase.

You will report directly to the Project Engineering Team Manager and collaborate closely with the rest of EPC, Operations, and Development teams across the full project lifecycle - from early-stage feasibility assessments, permitting support, and technical due diligence, to managing detailed design, procurement, and construction processes. The position is based at our headquarters in Hellerup, Denmark.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and review deliverables from external engineering consultants, EPC, and EPCM contractors to ensure technical compliance and quality.
  • Coordinate detailed design processes across disciplines (electrical, civil, structural, grid).
  • Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and participating in supplier and contractor evaluation.
  • Oversee and support construction activities from a technical perspective, ensuring alignment with design, contractual requirements, timeline, and budget.
  • Take technical ownership of assigned projects within the PV & BESS discipline and drive continuous improvement of internal engineering standards and processes.
  • Support Development in technical screening and analysis of new PV, BESS, and hybrid project opportunities.
  • Prepare preliminary layouts and conduct early-stage feasibility assessments using tools such as RatedPower and/or PVcase.
  • Contribute to permitting processes by providing technical input, drawings, and documentation.
  • Perform and support system size- and yield assessments and technical evaluations to inform investment decisions.
  • Assist in technical due diligence processes for acquisitions and project financing.

About you

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with large-scale, ground-mounted solar PV plants.
  • Knowledge of BESS design principles and integration with solar PV plants.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in solar PV projects.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience with PVsyst, PVcase, or similar software is an advantage.
  • Good analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Structured, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional European languages (Danish, Polish, Spanish, Lithuanian, or Italian) are considered an advantage.
