Job Description
We're looking for a practical, electrically focused Engineering Technician to support the assembly, installation, and operation of a wide range of technical equipment used in testing and development work. The role involves hands‑on workshop activity, field deployments, and working with engineers to prepare, run, and maintain equipment at different sites.
This position suits someone who enjoys varied work, travel, and being involved directly in building and operating equipment rather than sitting at a desk.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Build & Electrical Work
- Assemble electrical systems, control panels, and instrumentation according to drawings and guidance.
- Install wiring, sensors, actuators, protection devices, and three‑phase power equipment.
- Support integration of electrical and mechanical components into complete test setups.
- Carry out routine checks, troubleshooting, and repairs during development and testing.
Field Operations & Testing
- Assist in transporting equipment to sites in the UK and abroad.
- Set up and commission systems for trials under supervision from engineering staff.
- Operate equipment during test periods and record observations or data as required.
- Make on‑site adjustments, replacements, or minor modifications where needed.
Workshop Tasks
- Fabricate and assemble brackets, mounts, enclosures, and simple structures.
- Use common workshop tools for cutting, drilling, grinding, and basic machining tasks.
- Help maintain workshop organisation, tool control, and parts inventory.
- Prepare equipment for deployment, ensuring all components are ready and safe to use.
About You
You'll be well suited to this role if you:
- Have strong hands‑on experience with electrical work or mixed‑discipline technician tasks.
- Can follow wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly instructions confidently.
- Are comfortable travelling frequently and working at different types of sites.
- Are practical, safety‑minded, organised, and able to solve problems proactively.
- Can work independently while staying aligned with engineering plans and priorities.
