Overview
Sunrun is looking for a process focused, detail oriented, and efficient Senior Engineering Leader to join our team. This critical person will provide hardware expertise and leadership in a highly collaborative, continuous improvement-focused role. Responsibilities include managing a team of engineers, hardware and software vendor development, final escalation support for field issues, and the testing and validation of new products Sunrun seeks to onboard. Performance indicators will comprise successful implementation of an organized and well tracked vendor development program and the successful launch of hardware products that delight our customers. This leader will be responsible for developing a vendor strategy that optimizes cost and customer satisfaction. High level organizational, interpersonal, and technical skills will be demanded for this position. The work environment is fast-paced, fluid, and exciting on a fun, communicative team reliant on collaboration.
Responsibilities
Engineering Management
- Lead and grow a team of five Applications and Quality engineers.
- Administers effective calibrations and techniques to assess employee's performance.
- Coaches, develops, and motivates team members to exceed all program goals.
- Foster collaboration with partner teams (NPI, Product Management, Design, Supply Chain, Data, and Operations) to overcome multi-dimensional technical and business challenges.
- Provide subject matter expertise in hardware applications, functionality, and interoperability. Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of services and functions within various operational groups including design, installation, service, and telemetry.
- Acts as a resource and advisor to the training department, through identifying training deficiencies, operations trends, and vendor assessments. Assists in the promotion of quality culture within the organization.
Vendor Management
- Responsible for technical vendor relationship management, negotiations and implementation of cost and operational performance improvements. Represent Sunrun when meeting with senior executive teams from top vendors and build-long term strategic relationships.
- Identifying and adding process improvements and advocating on behalf of customers.
- Develop an end-to-end vendor development program that focuses on providing quality products to fulfill customer needs.
- Analyzes the quality gaps, identifies needs affecting production performance, and formulates appropriate recommendations and provides on-going performance feedback.
- Documents quality issues and performance measures for management review.
- Performs additional audits on various high-risk processes.
- Ensures effective implementation and maintenance of a corrective action program and training opportunities. Facilitate information between training and operations. Follow trends, identify gaps, and provide information to the training department for development opportunities.
- Develop and lead quarterly and annual business reviews for their area of responsibilities.
- Utilize peers within the Supply Chain team for best practices and growth.
- Cross-functional collaboration on systems and processes to support business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related science required. P.E. or PMP in a related field is a plus.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Hardware Engineering, Product Development, or Hardware development Program Management. Minimum 3 years demonstrated leadership of other engineers.
- Experience in Renewable Energy systems at the residential, commercial, industrial, or utility level. Must have experience in Battery Systems, Photovoltaics and their interactions.
- Comprehensive understanding of Renewable Energy hardware, quality, and installation standards.
- Technical aptitude and agility to learn web-based tools, systems and processes, including emergent AI based tools to expand capabilities.
- Experience in building partnerships at the director and higher management level.
- Proven negotiating skills, influencing abilities, and vendor management experience.
- Experience in devising and reviewing project and product plans, documents, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of data analysis, mathematics, and statistical techniques.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, time-management, and leadership skills.
- Must possess technical expertise in their domain.
