About the role

12 Month Fixed Term Contract | Sydney Based

The Electrification & Innovation (E&I) team is driving Australia's transition to a cleaner energy future through innovative, scalable electrification solutions. We innovate at speed-constantly improving our offerings and turning bold ideas into transformative solutions for the future.

AGL acquired Everty, a leading software solution provider that assists businesses and organisation in electrifying fleets and operating EV charging infrastructure. Everty delivers end-to-end EV charging solutions and it this role you are part of a small team with a variety of responsibilities.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in building and evolving our platform, contributing to products that drive real impact for customers and support decarbonisation at scale.

This is a hands-on role where you'll design, develop, and enhance backend services, frontend applications, and cloud infrastructure-ensuring performance, reliability, security, and scalability. You'll also contribute to technical architecture decisions, support the ongoing evolution of our systems, and mentor engineers within the team.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead end‑to‑end platform engineering: Architect, design and deliver scalable, secure and maintainable solutions across backend services, frontend applications and cloud infrastructure. You'll take complex features from concept through to production with strong technical ownership.
  • Build high‑quality full‑stack products: Develop across Node.js/TypeScript, React (web), React Native/Expo (mobile) and PostgreSQL, ensuring a seamless customer experience and best‑in‑class product quality.
  • Optimise cloud and system performance: Shape and enhance our AWS environment to drive reliability, scalability and high performance across the Everty platform.
  • Contribute to product direction: Work closely with Product and cross‑functional teams to refine requirements, influence the roadmap, and use data and insights to guide decision‑making.
  • Champion engineering excellence: Mentor engineers, uphold high coding and testing standards, and drive continuous improvement through refactoring, performance tuning and thoughtful tech‑debt management.
  • Support charger onboarding & integration: Oversee end‑to‑end testing and integration of new charger models to ensure seamless compatibility with the Everty platform.

About you

  • Strong experience working as a full stack software engineer, ideally in a senior capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with OCPP 1.6j, OCPP 2.x and OCPI 2.x, with a strong understanding of EV charging ecosystems
  • Experience in developing and operating EV SaaS product stack, with exposure to onboarding a variety of charger hardware considered a plus.
  • Strong Proficiency in Node.JS, JavaScript/ TypeScript, React for web, React Native for mobile development, TypeORM and PostgreSQL.
  • Excellent understanding of distributed systems, API design and event‑driven architecture.
  • Significant AWS experience
