Finance Director
Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire
Company Overview
Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH)
Lebanon, NH, United States
2021
Approximately 60 employees; revenue figures are not publicly disclosed, but forecasted costs for the August 2025 rate period are $96,829,495 (source: nhpr.org).
What They Do
Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH) focuses on community choice aggregation (CCA) for electricity supply, allowing local governments to pool their purchasing power to secure competitive rates for electricity. The organization offers renewable energy options, including 33%, 50%, and 100% renewable energy plans, compliant with New Hampshire's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS, RSA 362-F). CPCNH does not generate power directly but aggregates demand from residents and businesses served by utilities such as Eversource, Liberty Utilities, and NHEC, providing services like default enrollment with opt-out options and rate stabilization through collective buying (source: communitypowernh.gov). The target markets include residential, small commercial, and municipal customers across New Hampshire, with a focus on enhancing local control and community investments over mere cost minimization.
Projects & Track Record
CPCNH has initiated several notable projects, including the 5-megawatt Poverty Plains community solar array in Warner, which is expected to serve approximately 1,200 households and is scheduled to come online in 2026. The first bills under CPCNH partnerships were launched in May 2023, with a low opt-out rate of 2% in Lebanon, indicating strong community engagement. The organization is also working on expanding its reach, with ongoing efforts to include Sullivan County and Cornish, and aims to cover half of New Hampshire's population by January 2025 (source: nhpr.org). CPCNH's partnerships with over 62 municipalities and counties, including Dover and Portsmouth, enhance its capacity to deliver energy solutions tailored to local needs.
Recent Developments
In the past two years, CPCNH has faced challenges, including significant rate hikes attributed to winter weather and natural gas market volatility. Notable increases occurred on February 1, 2025, and August 1, 2025, with rates rising to 13.2-13.7 ¢/kWh, reflecting the organization's efforts to manage operational costs amid an $8 million loss that led to the departure of CEO Brian Callnan. Membership has expanded significantly, with 12 new municipalities joining in spring 2024, bringing the total to over 62, and the organization is actively pursuing further growth to enhance its purchasing power and community impact (source: dover.nh.gov). CPCNH's commitment to transparency and community engagement remains a cornerstone of its operations, as evidenced by its annual reports and policy reviews aimed at risk management.
Working There
CPCNH offers a variety of roles primarily based in its Lebanon, NH headquarters, including positions in member services, operations, energy advisory, project development, and governance. The organization emphasizes a culture of local control and collaboration, with leadership roles filled by individuals committed to community engagement and sustainability. Recent financial challenges have led to a focus on hiring in finance and strategy, reflecting the organization's need for robust risk management and operational oversight (source: nhpr.org). While specific employee benefits are not publicly documented, the mission-driven work and community investments suggest a supportive environment for staff dedicated to energy independence and local resilience.
