Job Description

Wärtsilä Energy Storage is looking for a Supplier Development Engineer (Battery), The role will be part of the Supply Management group. This position be based in Suzhou.

What will you be doing?

For the global Energy Storage supplier base, the Supplier Development Engineer, Energy Storage is accountable for the Battery Cell, Module, PDU and BMS(Battery Management System) product quality assurance at suppliers as well as for suppliers compliance and continuous improvement of performance in terms of quality, delivery accuracy, lead time reduction, and productivity improvements to ensure conformance with product and project requirements as well as first time right deliveries. This position will closely work with Battery Integrator responsible Supplier Development and Quality Assurance team.

As a Supplier Development Engineer, Energy Storage your work will focus on these responsibilities

  • Drive the qualification of new and current suppliers and contractors
  • Execute activities related to supplier evaluation, for example, supplier compliance assessment, supplier audits, and audit follow-up according to supplier audit plans
  • Partner with supplier in new manufacturing process implementation followed by a transition to start-up, qualification, implementation, and ramp-up of the new production process
  • Works with the supplier and executes process validation and test method validation. Partners with suppliers to define their process, tools, equipment, and ongoing controls
  • Ensure quality inspections and audits at suppliers are planned and executed with the target to secure adherence to Wartsila quality requirements. Ensure transparency of information
  • Ensure that reported quality issues and audit findings are analysed, root-caused and corrective actions agreed upon, implemented to prevent quality defects from reoccurrence
  • Continuously improve suppliers and mitigate potential risks to achieve targets and collaborates in supplier development programs, as well as driving their performance by building and establishing effective correction and improvement actions
  • Participates in product teams with cross-functional team members to qualify and improve supplier manufacturing processes and inspection methods
  • Take ownership and action on Quality, Delivery and Cost activities utilizing defined Supplier Development tools
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, and procedures on supplied components and supplier manufacturing processes
  • Organize and lead operational excellence initiatives at suppliers to support cost reduction and supplier performance improvement
  • Conduct inspection and testing to secure a quality product

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have

  • 5+ years experience of Battery Cell, Module, PDU and BMS(Battery Management System), electrical engineering, supplier development and/or quality experience in power systems, renewables or energy storage industry
  • Product and process auditing experience, management system auditing experience with ESG, SA8000, ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 or similar is preferred. Furthermore, certification within Lean and/or Six Sigma will be perceived as an advantage
  • Experience in product validation and approval process such as Product Part Approval Process(in Wärtsilä, Wärtsilä Supplier and Part Approval Process)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and are capable of interfacing with numerous parties at all levels in a multicultural environment as a global team member in Supplier Development & Quality team
  • Familiar with analytical techniques commonly used to investigate component defects and ability to deal with administrative as well as technical tasks.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong bias for action and results orientation is critical
  • Individual must be self-driven and self-motivated to learn and use that knowledge to produce results
  • Able to trouble shoot and solve problems on the manufacturing line
  • Strong solution-oriented approach, capability to implement and persistency to follow-up activities in order to ensure sustainability and quality
  • Willing to travel 40% of the time
  • You possess excellent English (both orally and written)
