About the role

The Virtual Power Plant (VPP) operations team is responsible for managing and growing AGL's multi-asset Virtual Power Plant.

AGL's VPP incorporates a variety of assets, from hot water and batteries in homes through to backup generators at major commercial & industrial customers as well as larger distribution-scale batteries. AGL has one of the oldest residential VPP's globally, born from an original ARENA trial in 2016. As this fleet expands to new OEM's and markets, this newly created role is responsible for owning the lifecycle operations of AGL's Residential Battery Orchestration Program. The Resbatt Fleet Operations Lead will work autonomously with a range of business development, engineering, market operations, and development teams to maintain & grow AGL's complex Residential Battery capability

In this role, you will be responsible for owning the end-to-end lifecycle operations of AGL's Residential Battery Orchestration Program, working autonomously with a range of business development, engineering, market operations, and development teams to maintain & grow AGL's complex Residential Battery capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Own, maintain and improve the Onboard/offboard lifecycle, including:
    • Engage with third parties such as battery OEM's, DERMs providers.
    • Own & Maintain Technical Verification process, including validating telemetry and test dispatches.
  • Own and maintain general fleet monitoring, including ongoing dispatch compliance, fleet availability & counterparty SLA metrics.
  • Support process updates for new and emerging OEM's, adjusting established processes to suit.
  • Coordinate with a wide range of cross-functional stakeholders in AGL Customer Markets, AGL Energy Markets & Development, and AGL Technology to ensure the smooth operations of the Residential Battery Orchestration.
  • Identify and implement efficiency and automation opportunities across the Residential Battery Orchestration program.

About you

You will have demonstrated experience working in an operations setting within a Project / Program Management, Engineering, operations or similar role. Your ability to engage a wide audience of stakeholders ranging from internal employees to external parties eg. distributors, while keeping the commercial needs of the business at the forefront of your mind will set you up for success in this role.

In addition to the above, strong candidates will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the energy industry, and passion for Consumer Energy Resources (CER).
  • Exposure to project management principles (eg. Lean Six Sigma).
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel and an understanding of Power BI, SQL, Tableau etc or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously in an innovative and evolving area.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills with a willingness to be curious and get into the details.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications are highly regarded.
