Job Description

Applications are invited from motivated Indian nationals for a research position in the Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology Division for the DBT funded project as detailed below:

Title of the Project: Sustainable valorization of low cost substrates into high value porous carbon for carbon capture.

  • Perform microbiology lab experiments including isolation of bacteria from soil and water samples, streaking, sub-culturing, maintenance of bacterial cultures, preservation of the bacterial cultures.
  • Perform bacterial growth measurement, bacterial characterization through physiological, morphological and biochemical analysis; bacterial identification using PCR based molecular taxonomy, cloning of genes.
  • Participate in the upscaling of the microbial cultures in the bioreactor, development of bacterial formulation, monitoring microbial growth, contamination, viability and stability during production of bacterial cultures in the bioreactors.
  • Handling analytical instruments for analysis of soil and water samples, analysis of pollutant using GC, HPLC and GC-MS.
  • Visit to collaborative/partner institute, other TERI campuses for project activity and meetings.
  • Compile scientific and technical data, research outcomes, writing research articles, review articles and project reports.
  • Visit experimental field for sampling and demonstration of the field trial of the projects.
  • Mentor trainees engaged in the lab.
  • Any additional scientific tasks that PI periodically assigns.

Experience

1 - 2 Years

Qualification

M.Sc./ M.Tech. in Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Life Science/ Chemical Engineering from a recognised University/Institute and having minimum 60% marks or CGPA of 7.5 and above at a scale of 10. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship)/ GATE/ DBT-BET or equivalent will be preferred.
