Freedom Solar Power

Company Overview

Name

Freedom Solar Power

Headquarters

Austin, TX, United States

Founded

2007

Size

Approximately 600 employees and revenue of $464 million in 2023 (source: zoominfo.com).

What They Do

Freedom Solar Power focuses exclusively on solar photovoltaic technology, acting as a full-service installer without involvement in wind, storage, hydrogen, or grid services beyond basic integration (source: freedomsolarpower.com). The company provides end-to-end residential and commercial solar systems, handling sales, custom design, permitting, in-house installation, and ongoing maintenance. Previously, it was a master dealer of high-efficiency SunPower panels, but the recent bankruptcy of SunPower has impacted its operations (source: prevostlawfirm.com). Residential customers benefit from tailored rooftop systems that come with a 25-year "bumper to bumper" warranty covering power production, products, and workmanship, although there have been complaints regarding service claims amid SunPower's failure (source: freedomsolarpower.com). The company serves residential homeowners in Texas, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, alongside hundreds of commercial clients nationwide, including notable businesses like Whole Foods and Office Depot (source: prevostlawfirm.com).

Projects & Track Record

By 2022, Freedom Solar had installed a cumulative 157 megawatts as SunPower's top master dealer, enough to power tens of thousands of homes, following 80 megawatts by 2020 expansions (source: freedomsolarpower.com). The company has completed thousands of residential and major commercial projects, including installations for Whole Foods and Office Depot since its inception (source: prevostlawfirm.com). Freedom Solar constructed some of Texas's largest early solar projects, starting as an installation specialist in 2007, and served 7,000 residential customers by 2020 (source: energysage.com). Although no specific current or ongoing major projects are detailed in recent disclosures, the company continues its national commercial operations alongside residential growth (source: freedomsolarpower.com).

Recent Developments

In the last two years through 2024, Freedom Solar settled a U.S. government claim for $425,710 over alleged improper receipt of a Paycheck Protection Program loan, without admitting wrongdoing (source: prevostlawfirm.com). The company received a corporate minority investment from SunPower on March 31, 2022, as part of the Dealer Accelerator Program to boost local solar businesses, marking its latest funding after a 2018 unattributed round (source: cbinsights.com). Expansions included new offices in Raleigh-Durham NC by 2022, highlighting 15 years of experience and 157 MW installed (source: freedomsolarpower.com). However, SunPower's recent bankruptcy has created challenges for Freedom Solar, as it installed their panels and components, potentially invalidating manufacturer warranties and shifting repair burdens despite the company's own workmanship coverage (source: prevostlawfirm.com).

Working There

Freedom Solar hires across various departments including sales, design, permitting, installation, and service for its fully integrated teams, with roles likely concentrated in residential operations in Texas and Florida, as well as national commercial divisions (source: freedomsolarpower.com). Openings appear at all listed offices, including the Austin TX headquarters, San Antonio TX, Grapevine TX, Houston TX, Colorado Springs CO, Denver CO, Tampa FL, Orlando FL, Chesapeake VA, and expansions like Raleigh-Durham NC and Charlotte SC (source: energysage.com). The company culture emphasizes teamwork, accountability, transparency, and humility, as reflected in its values such as "Put People First" and "Have a Humble Heart" (source: freedomsolarpower.com). While specific benefits packages are not publicly documented, the company's long-term service commitments are underscored by its 25-year warranties; however, job seekers should be aware of customer complaints on warranty service and the 2024 PPP settlement as potential stability indicators (source: prevostlawfirm.com).

Job Description

Anybody can run a checklist. We're looking for someone who can walk into a home, tell a family the truth about their system, and earn their trust before they even ask for it.

Freedom Power was born when Freedom Solar and Freedom HVAC joined forces to become Texas's complete whole-house energy company. We don't just install equipment. We hand homeowners the keys to something bigger: control over their energy, their bills, and their future. We call it Energy Empowerment, and it's not a tagline - it's the reason we show up every day.

As an HVAC Maintenance Technician, you're the reason our customers sleep easy. You'll run thorough preventative maintenance visits, catch the small problems before they become expensive ones, and explain exactly what you find - no pressure, no scare tactics, just facts and photos. When a repair or upgrade genuinely makes sense, you'll be the one homeowners trust to tell them so.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on residential HVAC systems, top to bottom.
  • Run comprehensive inspections using our maintenance checklists - condensers, coils, blower components, drain systems, electrical, capacitors, contactors, filters, and safety devices.
  • Measure and record static pressure, refrigerant temperatures, superheat/subcool, temperature split, amp draws, voltage, and capacitor readings.
  • Test system performance and verify everything's running the way it should.
  • Catch worn or failing components before they turn into emergency calls.
  • Explain findings in plain language, backed by photos - no jargon, no games.
  • Recommend repairs based on what the system actually needs, never on pressure.
  • Educate homeowners on indoor air quality, comfort, and energy-saving solutions when they provide genuine value and improve system performance.
  • Introduce qualified homeowners to our maintenance membership program.
  • Flag replacement opportunities when a system's genuinely reached the end of the road.
  • Document every visit in ServiceTitan - photos, technician notes, equipment readings, diagnostic findings, and all recommendations to the homeowner.
  • Keep your vehicle, tools, and appearance sharp and professional.
  • Follow every safety policy and TDLR regulation, every time.
  • Perform all work in accordance with manufacturer specifications, local building codes, company quality standards, and all applicable safety policies.

What You Bring

  • EPA Section 608 Certification (required)
  • TDLR Registered or Certified HVAC Technician (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of residential HVAC experience
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in attics and outdoor Texas heat
  • Bonus points: ServiceTitan experience, Lennox experience, heat pump experience, or strong electrical diagnostics

The Physical Side

  • Comfortable moving - stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, and everything in between, for extended stretches
  • Able to lift 50 lbs regularly throughout the day
  • Good with heights, attics, and unbothered by Houston heat or a cold snap

What's In It For You

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 100% Company-Sponsored Short-Term Disability
  • 401(k) Employer Matching
  • Weekly Pay Dates
  • 3 Weeks PTO + 3 Sick Days
  • 12 Paid Holidays + 1 Floating Holiday
  • Real upward mobility - senior technician, field trainer, comfort advisor, or leadership roles are all on the table

One More Thing

One of our favorite core values is Give a Damn - and that's exactly what we're looking for. Don't check every box above? Apply anyway. We hire for grit, honesty, and character as much as resumes - and we're always excited to discover skills we didn't know we needed.

Freedom Power is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
