Job Description

The BESS Electrical Estimator is primarily responsible for preparing electrical estimates for battery energy storage systems (BESS), with secondary support for photovoltaic (PV) solar estimates.

This role is hybrid with regular in-office presence in San Diego, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to define scope and estimate requirements.
  • Prepare estimates by performing takeoffs and entering scope details into the estimating system.
  • Quantify bid package incidentals, including subcontracted work, equipment rentals, tools, and supplier costs.
  • Identify qualified suppliers and subcontractors, solicit quotes, and review submissions for alignment with plans and specifications.
  • Review scope, technical requirements, and pricing before issuing formal bid packages.
  • Use Accubid Anywhere for labor allocation and material takeoffs through SOLV proprietary assemblies, and help improve those assemblies in Accubid Manager.
  • After a successful bid, support project turnover by reviewing the estimate, scope, quotes, and key considerations with the project team.
  • Complete client-required documents on time.
  • Prepare scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications that support estimate values.
  • Work with field teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supervise and train estimating staff as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements

  • Degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of electrical estimating or directly related experience.
  • Ability to understand substation, transmission, switchyard, energy storage, and electrical design components, including their purpose and use.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Excel, and Accubid.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to communicate urgency and drive timely responses from internal and external partners.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to reduce costs and support schedule requirements.
