Company Overview
FLASC B.V.
HeadquartersDelft, Netherlands
Founded2019
SizeApproximately 10 employees (source: linkedin.com). The company received a grant of €2.5 million in 2024 under the EU's EIC Accelerator program (source: flasc.eu).
What They Do
FLASC specializes in offshore energy storage using their patented Hydro-Pneumatic Liquid Piston Technology, specifically designed for large-scale, long-duration electricity storage applications (source: flasc.eu). This technology plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between the unreliable production of renewable energy and the fluctuating demand from consumers, with a primary focus on offshore wind farms (source: flasc.eu). The system utilizes seawater and compressed air instead of batteries or chemical storage, making it an environmentally friendly alternative (source: flasc.eu). FLASC primarily targets offshore wind farm developers who face challenges such as grid congestion and forced curtailment of energy production (source: flasc.eu).
Projects & Track Record
FLASC has conducted early proof-of-concept tests in the port of Malta, validating the technical feasibility of their technology (source: flasc.eu). The company is currently developing a comprehensive, grid-connected pilot installation in Rotterdam, co-funded by the €2.5 million EIC Accelerator grant obtained in 2024 (source: flasc.eu). This pilot represents a significant milestone in the transition from research and development to commercial implementation. FLASC also has a strategic partnership with Subsea 7, which supports them in the commercial rollout of their technology (source: flasc.eu).
Recent Developments
In 2024, FLASC won the first NL Startup Competition in the Energy Transition category, resulting in a prize of €10,000 (source: flasc.eu). This year, the company also received a significant grant of €2.5 million under the EIC Accelerator program, representing substantial validation of their technology and commercial potential (source: flasc.eu). The funding is being used for the development of the pilot installation in Rotterdam, which is a crucial step towards commercial viability (source: flasc.eu). FLASC has also established several production partnerships in Rotterdam to scale up production (source: flasc.eu).
Working at FLASC
The FLASC team consists of experienced professionals, including Daniel Buhagiar as CEO and Tonio Sant as CTO, both of whom have extensive experience in the sector (source: flasc.eu). The company is headquartered in Delft, Netherlands, with a team that also works partially at the University of Malta (source: flasc.eu). The company culture emphasizes pragmatic problem-solving and market understanding, focusing on developing robust technologies before they are brought to market (source: flasc.eu). Employees have the opportunity to be part of an innovative technology project that is in a crucial growth phase, with opportunities for collaboration with key partners such as Subsea 7 (source: flasc.eu).

FLASC develops Hydro-Pneumatic Energy Storage (HPES), a proprietary long-duration energy storage technology that uses water to enable efficient compression and expansion of air. Its modular design can serve offshore wind projects and water-adjacent onshore sites, helping customers manage intermittency, curtailment, congestion and price volatility. Our Rotterdam pilot is the final qualification step towards market entry.
We are now looking for an entrepreneurial Commercial Director (Energy Storage) to help convert a growing portfolio of market opportunities into paying projects and commercial contracts.
FLASC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and gender-balanced team. We value work-life balance and offer a flexible approach to office and remote work from our base at the Buccaneer Accelerator in Delft.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with management and the engineering team, you will contribute customer and market insight to FLASC's commercial strategy and turn that strategy into action. You will lead the day-to-day pursuit of opportunities from first contact through qualification, relationship development, solution shaping, proposal development and contracting. Your success will be measured by the quality and progression of FLASC's commercial pipeline: creating qualified opportunities, securing demonstration and first commercial projects, and ultimately converting these into contracted revenue.
Specific Responsibilities
- Build the pipeline and ecosystem: Identify and prioritize developers, asset owners, utilities, industrial sites, ports and potential delivery partners: open doors through targeted outreach, industry networks and warm introductions. Develop partnerships that can accelerate market entry and project delivery.
- Shape customer solutions: Understand each prospect's technical and commercial problem, then work with FLASC's team to define a credible solution and communicate a compelling customer-facing value proposition and business case.
- Advance opportunities: Establish and maintain meaningful relationships and create clear next steps, progressing opportunities from initial interest through feasibility assessment, demonstration or first-of-a-kind projects, proposals and negotiations towards commercial contracts.
- Inform strategy: Bring structured feedback on customer needs, market segments, competitors, partners and routes to market into management's commercial strategy reviews; adapt the pursuit as the market and product evolve.
- Represent FLASC: Build visibility and trust with decision-makers and influencers, including through regular travel, customer visits and industry events. Maintain clear pipeline records, priorities and forecasts.
The role comes with an attractive remuneration package, incentive-based compensation and the opportunity to grow with an ambitious climate-tech company.
Requirements
- Relevant experience and network: Demonstrated track-record in B2B business development, technical sales or project development in energy, storage, offshore, power or industrial infrastructure, with evidence of originating and progressing complex opportunities. An existing network that can generate warm introductions is strongly preferred.
- Technical-commercial capability: An engineering or energy background, or equivalent technical fluency, is required. You are comfortable developing and challenging project business cases and translating technical performance, CAPEX/OPEX and operating assumptions into customer economics.
- Drive and adaptability: Independent, proactive and persistent. You create momentum without waiting for instruction, remain focused on the objective and adapt your approach in a fast-paced, uncertain market with an evolving product.
- Relationships and communication: Genuinely eager to connect with new people and build trust over time. Clear and persuasive spoken and written English is essential; Professional working proficiency in Dutch, sufficient to conduct customer meetings and develop commercial relationships, is required.
- Mobility: Willing and able to travel regularly for customer meetings, partner engagement and industry events.
