What They Do
Terrenus Energy specializes in solar energy solutions, focusing primarily on solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. The company develops and deploys grid-connected solar farms, commercial installations, and innovative hybrid systems that incorporate wind, tidal, and wave energy (source: terrenus.energy). Their product offerings include end-to-end solar panel design, installation, and maintenance for utility-scale farms, rooftops, building-applied photovoltaics (BAPV), agrivoltaics, and robotics-based panel cleaning, with surplus energy fed into national grids (source: terrenus.energy). Target markets include Singapore's public sector, such as government agencies like JTC Corporation and Housing & Development Board (HDB), as well as commercial clients in business parks and industries facing land constraints (source: jtc.gov.sg). The company differentiates itself through high-density deployments that optimize limited spaces for record energy yield per square meter, positioning it as a leader with over 160 MWp in contracts and plans to exceed 300 MWp (source: dbs.com.sg).
Projects & Track Record
Terrenus Energy has completed several notable projects, including SolarLand Phase 1 on Jurong Island, which is Singapore's first grid-connected solar farm operational since May/June 2019, generating 6.6 GWh annually to power 1,475 four-room flats (source: jtc.gov.sg). Another significant project is SolarLand Phase 2 at Changi Business Park, the largest ground-mounted solar farm with over 35,500 panels, completed around 2018-2019, producing 30.4 GWh yearly for 6,600 households while offsetting 12,700 tonnes of carbon (source: dbs.com.sg). Ongoing major projects include the SolarLand Phase 1 extension, which began in June 2020 and integrates floating solar, small wind turbines, tidal turbines, and wave devices as the world's first four-in-one renewable site (source: jtc.gov.sg). Additionally, the company won the SolarNova 6 tender, deploying panels on 1,200 HDB buildings and 57 government sites, expanding capacity to 142.2 MWp (source: dbs.com.sg).
Recent Developments
In the last two years, Terrenus Energy secured the SolarNova 6 contract from HDB and the Economic Development Board for its largest project on 1,200 HDB blocks and 57 sites, announced around March 2023 (source: dbs.com.sg). The company also partnered with Sumitomo Chemical and JTC for a 117 MWp solar expansion on Jurong Island and five buildings, boosting capacity to 142.2 MWp as highlighted in JTC's FY2023 Annual Report (source: jtc.gov.sg). The SolarLand Phase 1 extension is advancing toward early 2023 completion for its hybrid renewables milestone, with portfolio growth surpassing 160 MWp in contracts and annual output powering over 80,000 HDB flats while offsetting 150,000 tonnes of carbon (source: dbs.com.sg). No acquisitions, mergers, or new funding rounds have been reported since the $3 million raise in 2019, but the company continues to emphasize testbedding agrivoltaics and robotics amid Singapore's land challenges (source: cbinsights.com).
Working There
Terrenus Energy employs approximately 40 staff across various departments, including engineering, project development, construction, and operations, with a focus on renewable deployment (source: rocketreach.co). Hiring primarily occurs at its Singapore headquarters, with no specified openings in the Australia office (source: cbinsights.com). The company culture is characterized by founder-led innovation that emphasizes resource optimization, safety adherence, precision execution, and collaborative problem-solving in a high-stakes renewables environment, as evidenced by their testbedding of novel technologies like hybrids and agrivoltaics under CEO Charles Wong's vision (source: terrenus.energy). Specific employee benefits are not publicly documented in available sources.
