BW ESS is seeking an experienced Senior Treasury Manager to take ownership of the Group's treasury activities across its international corporate entities, project SPVs and joint ventures.

As BW ESS continues to grow, the complexity and importance of treasury is increasing materially. This role will bring together activities currently undertaken across different parts of the organisation, establish clear ownership and controls, and build a scalable treasury capability for the Group.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can both design the right treasury framework and make sure it operates effectively day to day. We are looking for candidates with real ownership experience in complex, multi-entity, multi-currency environments, ideally gained in energy, renewables, infrastructure, utilities or another project- and SPV-based business.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of FP&A and Treasury, you will work closely with the CFO, Strategic Finance, Portfolio FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Investments, Legal and project teams, as well as BW Group and the Group's banking counterparties.

You will be responsible for Group cash and liquidity management, credit support, FX and hedging operations, cash investment, banking and treasury facilities, treasury governance and treasury systems.

Your objective is to replace fragmented activity with a coherent Group treasury capability: giving management reliable visibility of cash, liquidity and treasury risk, ensuring cash and credit resources are deployed efficiently, strengthening controls and banking infrastructure, and building processes and systems that scale with the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cash management: own the consolidated Group cash position across corporate entities, project SPVs, joint ventures, accounts and currencies, including restricted and unrestricted cash, intercompany funding, equity contributions and distributions, and ensuring the right cash sits in the right entity, account and currency ahead of material payment obligations.
  • Liquidity management: own the Group liquidity position and rolling forecast, consolidating inputs from Portfolio FP&A, Accounting, Investments, Strategic Finance and project teams, and providing forward-looking analysis of requirements, constraints, surpluses and funding needs across multiple currencies and jurisdictions.
  • Credit support: own the portfolio of bank guarantees, parent-company guarantees, letters of credit and other contingent exposures, managing issuance, amendment, renewal and cancellation, and monitoring utilisation, expiries, fees, collateral and facility headroom.
  • FX management: own the consolidated view of forecast and actual FX exposures across development, construction, operations and corporate activity, maintain the Group's FX framework, recommend hedging actions, and execute approved transactions within delegated authorities.
  • Cash investment: manage surplus cash within approved policies and counterparty limits, optimising deposit arrangements, managing counterparty exposure and diversification, and negotiating terms to improve returns while preserving liquidity.
  • Hedging operations: own the operational management of FX and interest-rate derivatives, including execution, confirmation, settlement, records of hedges and maturities, collateral and threshold monitoring, and treasury inputs into valuation, accounting and reporting.
  • Banking and facilities: act as principal treasury relationship owner for cash-management and transaction banks, maintain the Group's banking architecture (accounts, mandates, signatories, access, KYC and documentation), own treasury-related facilities, and support complex funds flows for acquisitions, disposals, financings, refinancings and project financial close.
  • Controls, policy and governance: own treasury policies, procedures, delegated authorities and the control framework, ensure transactions are authorised, documented, reconciled and auditable, monitor compliance with policy and counterparty limits, and report to senior management and governance forums.
  • Systems and transformation: define the future treasury operating model, lead Treasury's contribution to the Group's ERP implementation, drive automation of cash visibility, forecasting, payments and bank-statement collection, and assess the role and timing of a dedicated Treasury Management System.

Required Skills And Experience

  • 10+ years' relevant experience in corporate treasury, infrastructure, energy, banking or a closely related finance role.
  • Demonstrable experience taking ownership of treasury activities in a complex, multi-entity, multi-currency organisation.
  • Strong practical experience across cash and liquidity management, FX, banking, credit support and treasury controls.
  • Experience managing senior relationships with banks and other financial counterparties.
  • Strong understanding of treasury risk management, with the ability to translate financial exposures into practical recommendations and actions.
  • Ability to operate effectively across multiple legal entities, jurisdictions, currencies and stakeholders.
  • Strong judgement and the confidence to identify issues, challenge existing practice and recommend solutions to senior management.
  • Comfortable working hands-on while building more scalable processes, controls and systems.
  • Strong analytical capability and the ability to communicate complex treasury issues clearly and concisely.
  • ACT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Energy, renewables, infrastructure, utilities or another project- and SPV-based business.
  • Treasury within a business undergoing rapid international growth.
  • Project finance, including restricted cash, reserve accounts and project-level funding structures.
  • Bank guarantees, letters of credit, parent-company guarantees and other project credit support.
  • FX and interest-rate derivatives, including ISDA-governed arrangements.
  • ERP, Treasury Management System or wider finance-transformation implementation.
  • Cash pooling, bank connectivity, automated payments and treasury reporting.
  • Acquisition, disposal, refinancing and complex transaction funds flows.

About BW Energy Storage Systems

Company Overview

Name

BW Energy Storage Systems, a subsidiary of BW Group

Headquarters

Singapore

Founded

2020

Size

Approximately 30 employees (source: ess-news.com).

What They Do

BW Energy Storage Systems (BW ESS) specializes in battery energy storage systems (BESS), acting as a developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale projects that enhance energy market efficiency, integrate renewable energy sources, and stabilize electrical grids. The company focuses on large-scale BESS platforms that utilize advanced liquid-cooled technologies, such as Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0, which provide essential grid-forming capabilities including black start, millisecond inertia support, and frequency/voltage stabilization (source: bw-ess.com). These systems are designed for durations of up to 3.5 hours, enabling revenue generation through tolling agreements, frequency response, and energy arbitrage, particularly in deregulated energy markets across Europe and Australia (source: bw-group.com). BW ESS's strategic focus on long-term asset ownership rather than merchant sales allows it to serve grid operators, utilities, and energy traders effectively (source: bw-ess.com). The company leverages its backing from BW Group for funding and maritime expertise, which enhances its capacity for rapid project execution and innovative revenue models, positioning it as a leader in the energy storage sector (source: bw-group.com).

Projects & Track Record

As of early 2025, BW ESS boasts over 500MWh of operational BESS projects and more than 1GWh currently under construction, alongside a robust 7GW development pipeline (source: bw-group.com). A flagship project is the 100MW/331MWh Bramley BESS located near Bramley, Hampshire, UK, which became operational in early 2025, marking it as the largest battery energy storage system in the UK at that time and capable of powering approximately 44,000 homes daily (source: bw-group.com). Other significant projects include the Hams Hall site in the UK, which is currently under construction with a capacity of 1.4GWh, and the Berkswell site, which is at the ready-to-build stage (source: cbinsights.com). The company is also engaged in a 700MW/3.5-hour BESS portfolio in the UK, a 1.5GW collaboration with Zelos Energy in Germany, and multiple projects in Italy and Australia, significantly expanding its geographic footprint and operational capacity (source: bw-ess.com). Key clients include Shell Energy Europe, with whom they have a 7-year tolling agreement for the Bramley project, and partnerships with local developers to facilitate market entry (source: bw-group.com).

Recent Developments

In February 2025, BW ESS celebrated the inauguration of the 100MW/331MWh Bramley BESS, marking its first European project with Sungrow PowerTitan 2.0, under a groundbreaking 7-year tolling agreement with Shell Energy Europe established in 2024 (source: bw-group.com). In October 2024, the company made headlines by acquiring the remaining shares of Penso Power, thereby merging its team of nearly 30 specialists and adding a significant 2GW pipeline of projects in the UK and Australia, which contributed to a total pipeline of 5GW (source: ess-news.com). Additionally, BW ESS secured a 1.4GWh supply deal with Sungrow for the Hams Hall project and advanced joint projects in the UK and Italy (source: cbinsights.com). Recent announcements in 2025 included AIP Management acquiring a 49% stake in a 700MW/3.5-hour UK BESS portfolio and a collaboration with Zelos Energy Developments for a 1.5GW project in Germany (source: bw-ess.com). The Bramley project has been recognized as a significant milestone for enhancing UK grid resilience (source: bw-group.com).

Working There

BW ESS is actively hiring across various roles including project development, engineering, commercial operations, and business development, particularly following the integration of Penso Power in 2024, which enhanced their team with specialists focused on delivery and market entry (source: ess-news.com). The company is focusing its recruitment efforts on project sites in the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, and Sweden, with a global team of nearly 30 supporting its multi-market expansion (source: bw-group.com). The culture at BW ESS is characterized by close-knit collaboration, as highlighted by CEO Erik Strømsø, who refers to the Penso teams as "trusted colleagues," fostering synergies in a fast-paced environment that navigates complex grid codes and local strategies (source: youtube.com). While specific benefits such as salaries or perks are not publicly documented, the long-term owner-operator model suggests a degree of stability tied to BW Group's extensive infrastructure expertise (source: bw-ess.com). Job seekers are encouraged to monitor LinkedIn for openings in Singapore and Europe as the company scales its operations to meet growing demand (source: linkedin.com).
