Position Summary
The Senior Institutional Giving Officer will play a key role in the fundraising efforts from foundations, corporations, and other institutional donors. They will partner with senior program staff, the President, the VP for Strategy and Development and Senior Director of Institutional Giving, and NGO partner leaders to seek strategic philanthropic investments in C2ES’s work and build long-term, sustainable, and growing support for our program priorities. They will leverage their existing knowledge of the funding landscape to steward existing donors and identify and build new relationships to support C2ES as an indispensable partner in the climate and energy landscape in the U.S. and abroad. This person will be charged with managing a portfolio of grants, with a focus on six- and seven-figure relationships to support the growth and effectiveness of C2ES as a high-performing, nimble, and entrepreneurial organization. This role will also manage fundraising efforts for the Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC) – an industrial decarbonization collaboration between C2ES and founding partners World Wildlife Fund and David Gardner and Associates, spending about 30% of their time developing a pipeline of funding and stewarding existing funders to help stand up the effort as an independent 501(c)3 organization. As a key collaborator with program staff across the organization and across the RTC partnership, the Senior Institutional Giving Officer will provide advice and input to hone program strategies that reflect C2ES’s and RTC’s strengths and leadership in the global climate mitigation and resilience space and anticipate synergies with emerging funding opportunities. They will also work closely with the finance and program teams to provide timely, accurate budgets and narrative reports to funders that clearly convey the impact and value of their investment and build C2ES’s reputation as a leader in delivering results.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day management of a defined institutional giving portfolio of mid-six to seven-figure funding prospects in coordination with organizational and programmatic needs and targets; meet or exceed annual fundraising goals through effective collaboration with program and leadership teams.
- Define fundraising goals, budgets, and projections for institutional funding sources and chart a strategy to achieve those goals.
- Collaborate with program, development and organizational leadership to develop long-term fundraising strategies and implement effective cultivation and solicitation plans. Support program and strategic planning efforts with an eye toward positioning C2ES as a premier philanthropic investment.
- Ensure that relationships are advanced through timely, compelling, and accurate proposals, reports, and other stewardship communications.
- Identify and cultivate a pipeline of support for the Renewable Thermal Collaborative's work, and ensure communication and coordination of fundraising efforts across the partner organizations.
- Establish fundraising best practices and a platform for future growth for RTC’s work, and build a foundation that can sustain its work over time.
- Support the Senior Director of Institutional Giving in cultivating and stewarding seven to eight-figure relationships as necessary, including performing research and other work to identify new prospects.
- Develop talking points and other materials for executive staff donor meeting preparation.
- Implement systems, procedures and policies to mature C2ES’s fundraising process in line with best practices.
- Contribute to building an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging culture as a cross-functional member within a growing and cohesive team.

- Complete company training assigned during onboarding and on a yearly basis, including specialized training as relevant for management positions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive fundraising experience, working with leading funders in the environmental and/or climate philanthropic community. Experience fundraising for policy-related work, both domestic and international, and technology solutions preferred.
- Proven ability to secure and manage multiple six to seven-figure funding opportunities concurrently while simultaneously building a pipeline of new prospects.
- Extensive knowledge of the climate and clean energy funding landscape.
- Excellent editing and writing skills.
- Ability to interpret and work with finance staff to build proposal budgets and review financial reports.
- Experience utilizing a CRM platform; Salesforce preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize among and efficiently manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Flexibility, willingness to pitch in at all levels, and a team player.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the industrial decarbonization funding landscape and other emerging decarbonization and energy trends.
- Exceptional communication skills, with ability to translate technical material to non-technical audiences, and effectively communicate complex technical concepts when required.
- Interdisciplinary understanding of climate/technology/energy issues (science, technology, economics, business, law and policy).
- Commitment to, knowledge of, or experience in advancing issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental/climate justice.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Employment Status
Full-time, benefits-eligible; exempt from overtime.
Starting salary range: $120,000-$150,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Travel time and Location
C2ES operates a hybrid work environment from our main office in Washington, DC. We will consider remote applicants for this position that are able to commit to being present at week-long quarterly all-hands meetings in the Washington, DC metro area and travel as needed to fulfill their job responsibilities. Other travel as required to fulfill fundraising responsibilities.
