Job Description
Solid Power is seeking an R&D Battery Intern for spring term 2025 to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate will be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program focused on engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
Job Duties
- Work closely with and under the direction of scientists and engineers to run experiments at the lab bench scale
- Participate in all components of the cell building process including (but not limited to): weighing out powders/solvents, making slurries, casting slurries, building cells, testing cells (use of potentiostats and battery cyclers)
- Analyze data from cells to make recommendations for future iterations and/or cells
- Communicate results and roadblocks to the broader team/audience
- Always follow all facility and laboratory safety rules and regulations
Qualifications/Requirements
- Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment (required)
- Knowledge of electrochemistry is preferred and a plus
- Experience with material characterization techniques (XRD, SEM/EDS, rheology, etc.) is a plus
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with Python is a plus
- Rapid learner and self-motivated who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment
- Ability to work at least 12 hours per week during spring 2025 semester
Education and Experience
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in a STEM field; junior/senior level preferred
- Experience with battery materials, cell builds, data analysis, and/or failure modes is a plus
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation)
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR
- Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms
Hourly Compensation: $22-$25/hour
Schedule: 12-29 hours per week with shifts of at least 4 hours
