We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Construction Manager to oversee the development of a ground-mount solar farm in Southampton. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the construction phase of a renewable energy project and contribute to the UK's transition to clean energy. The successful candidate will ensure the project is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Coordination
    • Develop the Construction Phase Plan in collaboration with subcontractors, detailing the construction schedule and milestones.
    • Coordinate logistics with Project Manager and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
    • Conduct pre-construction site assessments and manage site setup, including temporary facilities, temporary access roads, and laydown areas.
  • Site Management
    • Lead and manage on-site subcontractor teams ensuring efficient workflows for timely completion.
    • Supervise all construction activities, including but not limited to: groundworks, trenching, structure installation, module mounting, electrical works, site reinstatement
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
    • Collaborate with Principal Designer during the development of the Risk Register during pre-construction, and ensure a smooth handover when construction starts.
    • Act as Principal Contractor and ensure all construction activities comply with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations, including CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations.
    • Implement and enforce health and safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
    • Promote a culture of safety and conduct regular toolbox talks, site inspections, and incident reporting.
  • Quality Assurance and Reporting
    • Ensure that all work is executed to high standards and in line with Employer Requirements and industry best practices.
    • Provide regular updates to the project manager, including progress reports, cost tracking, and risk assessments.
  • Resource Management
    • Monitor project progress, identify and address potential overruns.
    • Optimise resource allocation, including manpower, materials, and equipment, to maximise efficiency.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in managing large-scale solar farm projects.
  • Experienced in UK construction practices, regulations, and standards, including CDM compliance.
  • Desired but not compulsory:
  • Relevant certifications in construction management, (e.g. Black Manager’s CSCS Card, Gold Supervisor’s CSCS Card)
  • Relevant certifications in health and safety (e.g., SMSTS, NEBOSH, IOSH)
  • Experience developing solar farms on landfill sites
