Our Location

Energy Trust provides for a range of work location options, including remote, hybrid and in-office work. We are open to candidates who live throughout Oregon and Washington. The Financial Analyst is required to report to the office on a quarterly basis, at minimum, for company-wide All-Staff meetings. Additionally, participation in monthly on-site meetings with the Finance and Accounting Team is highly encouraged.

What We’re Looking For

This position is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining a wide range of critical financial reports and analysis for Board, public and management use. The person in this position also plays a key role in developing utility funding models which are the basis for revenue negotiations with Energy Trust’s funding utilities. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Innovation and Development, Energy Programs, and other groups and individuals regarding the administration of grants and other new revenue streams, and financial grant reporting. The Financial Analyst must apply sound reasoning, backed by a technical foundation in generally accepted accounting principles.

This individual reports to the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis.

This position is expected to report to the Portland office quarterly at a minimum for all staff and other in-person meetings

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with colleagues at all levels of our organization to become a go-to resource for understanding our cost, revenue, and operational dynamics.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of financial outcomes, trends, risks, and vital performance metrics across the enterprise.
  • Engage in regular forecasting and variance analysis while supporting budget holders in achieving their financial objectives.
  • Make the most of Energy Trust’s enterprise financial planning and budgeting system.
  • Act as a key contact for grant managers in overseeing the financial aspects of grants, including accounting, reporting, compliance, and financial planning. Work together with team members across other Finance functions as needed.
  • Prepare a regular financial reporting package.
  • Generate routine treasury reports for executives and Board members to review.
  • Assist with grant reporting and invoicing tasks.
  • Address ad-hoc data requests from leadership regarding financial performance and other fiscal information.
  • Keep an eye on the effectiveness of internal controls while carrying out job duties.
  • Collaborate with your peers in the Finance team to support daily operations, enhance systems and processes, share knowledge, and provide mutual coverage.
  • Be a helpful resource for other Energy Trust staff by participating in cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure that all job functions are performed safely.
  • Take on any other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have any supervisory duties.

Requirements

What You’ll Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is preferred, but we also value equivalent professional experience.
  • We're looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience in a combination of budgeting, financial planning & analysis, cost accounting, grant accounting or preparing or auditing GAAP-compliant financial statements preferred
  • Preference given to candidates with experience working with Basic SQL queries for data analysis, PowerBI development
  • Advanced proficiency in software tools for financial analysis, reporting, grant accounting, and budgeting is essential, including ERP systems and MS Office applications.
  • You should possess the ability to interpret and communicate insights gained from financial data effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are vital, whether working remotely or in person.
