Job Description
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation headquartered in Abu Dhabi, mandated to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. IRENA’s mission is to play a leading role in the ongoing transformation of the global energy systems as a centre of excellence for knowledge and innovation, a global voice of renewable energy, a network hub for all stakeholders and a source of advice and support for countries. At present, IRENA has 170 Members (169 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 14 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief Communications Officer, the Associate Professional social media will be responsible for the following duties:
- Proposes, writes, edits and reviews social media content in line with the communications strategy for IRENA, including coverage of key events such as the IRENA Assembly, and launches of flagship reports, content supporting news releases, IRENA event promotions, IRENA initiatives and other Agency’s outputs.
- Assists to maintain and manage the Agency’s social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, BlueSky etc.) and effectively promote IRENA products, publications, events and activities on social media.
- Provides regular social media calendar on weekly and monthly basis.
- Contributes to the implementation of digital communications campaigns around key themes and Agency priorities.
- Monitors IRENA’s social media community, driving engagement and alerting colleagues to actionable activity or potential issues.
- Identifies and recommends new social/digital content streams, platforms, tools, technologies to expand IRENA reach and influence.
- Helps develop digital content including social cards, graphics, videos and other multimedia products, using graphic design programs and software like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier (or similar) and Infogram.
- Where necessary, supports with the management of webcast content on social media channels such as YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Collects and analyses social media performance metrics through measurement tools like Emplifi, to gauge reach, engagement and other performance measures for social media posts, accounts and campaigns, helping to inform results-based decision-making and guide effective use of resources.
- Supports social media activity for Deputy Director-General and IRENA’s participation in events and missions.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Eligibility
Applicants should be no more than 32 years of age at the time of submitting their applications.
Qualification
Education: A first-level university degree with at least two years of relevant work experience, or advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, advocacy, communications, marketing, humanitarian work (ideally public information or content production) or other fields related to the job description.
Experience/Skills: Experience and skills in producing, editing and disseminating multimedia content for online audiences. Familiarity with advanced tools for online publishing and social media marketing, including social media authoring and planning tools like Sprinkl and Trello, and basic knowledge of Adobe software and tools
Language: Excellent command of English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
