Job Description

The Director of Marketing is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the company’s dynamic internal marketing teams, developing and executing innovative marketing strategies, and shaping strategic planning. This position will promote strong understanding of paid advertising, digital marketing, and emerging trends to drive brand awareness, generate leads, and boost sales. The Director of Marketing reports to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership and Planning

  • Lead the development of comprehensive marketing strategies in collaboration with clients, sales and operations leaders, marketing managers, and partners.
  • Manage the conception, development, and implementation of marketing plans, product concepts, and promotional programs to drive customer interest and sales.
  • Set short-term and long-term goals for internal teams, aligning with objectives for branding/corporate identity, public relations, advertising/sponsorships, event marketing, partner marketing, referral marketing, digital marketing, business development, and marketing communications.
  • Participate in the planning of the company’s objectives, providing strategic marketing input.
  • Strategically guide all marketing and communications efforts including assisting the executive team with market growth strategies, providing recommendations, counsel, and strong leadership.

Marketing Plan Execution and Management

  • Spearhead the execution of marketing campaigns, including testing, tracking, reporting, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Design and oversee the marketing department budget, prioritizing marketing projects and allocating resources effectively.
  • Oversee coordination with external agencies.
  • Conduct market analysis (which could include regulatory and incentive awareness and utility pricing analysis) to identify challenges and opportunities for growth and track competitors’ activities.
  • Enable the company to be a market leader via high-impact sales, go-to-market plays, and product roadmap decisions.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Forecast hiring needs for the Marketing department.
  • Conduct regular meetings with marketing managers to review scorecards, address challenges, brainstorm solutions, and provide training.
  • Mentor and assist in the management and growth of all team members.
  • Collaborate extensively with sales to create and evolve content for every segment and function, from initial meeting to final close-out deck.
  • Provide tools and materials for the effective functioning of the sales team, and generally support all sales and business development efforts.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations on marketing metrics (including analysis and corrective action for lost market-share or lost opportunities) for the Vice President of Sales & Marketing and other department leaders.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Proven track record as a Vice President of Marketing, Marketing Director, or another senior marketing role including demonstrated market expansion and share growth experience and Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field or equivalent experience and education to be considered.
  • Experience in Home Services, Solar, Energy, or Construction (preferred).
  • Experience with residential (B2C) and commercial (B2B) marketing strategies and activation
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute successful marketing campaigns.
  • Experience across branding, public relations, advertising, events, partnerships, digital marketing, and business development.
  • Skilled in collaborating with VP and C-level executives for strategic decision-making and product planning.
  • Expertise in motivating and building confidence in cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with design software, content management systems, CRM software, HTML, and digital marketing tools.
  • Strong analytical abilities and project management expertise.
  • A strategic mindset with the capacity for decisive action.
  • Experience translating company mission and priorities into strategic and tactical marketing plans, and communicating these plans to teams, partners, and executives.
  • Ability to combine data and customer insights to enhance the customer experience and measure performance.
  • Experience working effectively across departments and taking ownership of outcomes.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer (frequent).
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times (infrequent).
  • Ability to type at least 60 words per minute (frequent).
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time exempt salaried position with an expected base annual salary range $110,000 – $135,000 (Depending on Qualifications & Experience) + $15,000 – $40,000 additional bonuses/incentives through targeted profit sharing (discretionary profit sharing bonus based on company performance) and position based incentives.
  • Hybrid: This position is eligible to work a combination of in-office work at AES headquarters (St. Paul, MN) and remote/work from home eligibility: (Note: this is subject to change by management based on company and business needs, may or may not be eligible until 90+ days of employment/training period completion, will be determined and agreed on by management and employee, and contingent upon employees being in good standing).
  • Schedule & Business operating hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. but may be required to work outside of standard business hours to support marketing and business needs including accessibility after hours for urgent marketing needs (schedule to be reviewed and determined with director by management).
  • PTO accrual of up to 120 hours annually (3 weeks).
