Job Description

Position: Senior Civil Engineer

Location: Remote

Overview: The Senior Civil Engineer supports all Civil aspects of our utility-scale Photovoltaic (PV) Solar power plants. This includes oversight through the Civil Engineering design process, ensuring adherence to jurisdictional requirements, SRC Contract documents, industry standards and sound engineering judgement. The Senior Civil Engineer will also assist throughout construction with resolution of field issues and final acceptance of the project prior to Contractor demobilization.

Main Responsibilities

  • Primary Job Responsibilities:
    • Review and provide comments on civil engineering design deliverables for Utility scale PV Solar projects for compliance with SRC Specifications, contract documents and jurisdictional standards.
    • Coordinate with various internal project stakeholders including SRC Development Engineers, Project Engineers, Contract Managers, Project Managers, Construction Management, SRC Operations and Maintenance (O&M) group and others.
    • Coordinate with various external project stakeholders including EPC Contractors and their Sub-Contractors, Engineering Consultants (Geotechnical, Drainage, Survey, etc.), Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and others.
    • Schedule and lead design review meetings with external engineering consultants, Contractors and AHJs when necessary.
    • Conduct occasional site visits for evaluation and resolution of field issues as they arise.
    • Provide timely and cost-efficient solutions to SRC legacy projects (currently in operation) when issues arise.
  • Specific Skills Required:
    • Very strong Civil design background on large project sites. Utility-scale PV Solar project design preferred but not required.
    • Moderate expertise in Civil support disciplines including Geotechnical, Hydrology/Hydraulics modeling and design, Survey and Due Diligence / Land Entitlement processes.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively coordinate with internal and external project stakeholders throughout the development, contracting, final design and construction processes.
    • Ability to consistently execute and prioritize a multi-project workload to meet project goals including quality, safety and schedule timelines.
    • Ability to represent the organization professionally with landowners, vendors, utilities, local officials, and other project stakeholders.
    • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the US and SRC corporate headquarters in Nashville, TN.
    • Note: travel is typically infrequent but may be up to 25% at times.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Autodesk Civil 3D. Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, Procore (or similar Construction Management software) preferred, but not required.

Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or related discipline). PE licensure is preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of civil design experience. Solar power plant project experience is preferred, but not required. Experience needs to include grading and drainage design, hydrology/hydraulics modeling, flood mitigation design, roadway design, SWPPP preparation and during-Construction stormwater damage/erosion analysis and mitigation strategies for large sites.

Successful candidate also must be eager to learn and grow as a professional in the field. Candidate must have experience self-managing project tasks, be budget conscious, and support multiple project teams simultaneously. Working knowledge of permitting agencies and multidisciplinary design teams is required. Experience interpreting geotechnical reports citing soil conditions, full property surveys, wetland delineations, object and feature setbacks and other major critical civil features often found on complex sites. Critically thinking candidates and those who are highly organized is a plus.
