General Mission
As a part of the Process R&D team, we are seeking a highly skilled Laser Welding and Ultrasonic Welding Expert to support our development activity for lithium-ion battery. This position plays a critical role in developing, optimizing, and maintaining welding processes—laser and ultrasonic—for battery cell and module assembly. The expert will ensure high process reliability, quality, and efficiency in line with stringent battery safety and performance standards.
Main activities
- Develop and optimize laser welding and ultrasonic welding parameters for battery components (tabs, electrodes, busbars, terminals)
- Define welding process windows to ensure joint integrity, mechanical strength, and electrical performance
- Lead DOE experiments, analyze results, and implement improvements
- Perform failure analysis on weld defects (spatter, cracks, voids, weak joints) and recommend corrective actions
- Specify, qualify, and validate welding equipment and tooling in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams
- Document welding procedures and contribute to xFMEA, control plans, and SOPs
- Train operators and technicians on process understanding and machine operation
- Monitor KPIs and SPC data to ensure process stability and yield targets
- Support commissioning and scale-up activities from pilot to mass production
Prerequisites
- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in laser and/or ultrasonic welding processes, preferably in battery manufacturing, automotive, or electronics assembly
- Experience with automated welding systems and industrial robotics is a strong plus
- Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field
- In-depth knowledge of laser welding (fiber, pulsed, continuous wave) and ultrasonic welding technologies
- Familiarity with battery tab materials (copper, aluminum, nickel) and their welding characteristics
- Proficiency in using weld monitoring systems, microscopy, non-destructive testing (NDT), and tensile/shear testing methods
- Experience with CAD software and data acquisition systems
- Understanding of heat-affected zone (HAZ) behavior, metallurgical bonding, and joint design principles
- Knowledge of ISO, IATF 16949, and EV battery safety standards
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with experience in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles
