Job Description
The R&D Engineer I role will support internal and government funded research projects in the area of design and development of electrolyzer membrane electrode assembly (MEA), stack hardware and associated components. The occupant of this hands-on role will be actively involved in electrolyzer MEA fabrication, electrolyzer stack building, operational testing and data analysis. The role requires fluent data analysis ability and hands-on experience in a lab environment. Knowledge of fuel cells, electrolyzers or electrochemistry is desirable.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Support internal and government funded research projects in all areas of electrolyzer research and development including electrode, membrane, gasket and stack hardware
- Assembly, disassembly and post-mortem of electrolyzers and related sub-assemblies.
- Hands-on operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation including custom electrolyzer test stations
- Critically evaluate, document, and present analytical results to the team.
- Evaluate and apply standard technical principles and procedures while using independent judgment and utilize working knowledge of key regulatory programs.
- Flexibility and the ability to meet strict requirements to tight schedules.
- Work professionally and cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment with a focus upon maximizing system performance and customer satisfaction.
- Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions; support the organization's philosophy of providing high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to safety, health, and environmental procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field of study required.
- 0-3 years experience in a laboratory or research environment
- Specific experience with electrochemical devices (fuel cell, electrolyzer, battery) is preferred
- Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and Word is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Being able to finish tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Pay Rate:
$64,100.00 - $96,100.00
