Job Description

Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.

We are seeking a Project Manager Lead on our team and to help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet.

How you will make an impact

  • Manage complex, large-scale implementation projects for customers in the energy industry, from contract signature to closure, and including tracking financials, schedules, and deliverables. Translate complex technical concepts into clear business value propositions.
  • Manage projects by developing and maintaining project schedules and conducting regular status calls with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Serve as a cross-functional leader, working closely with software solutions architects, the proposal team, product managers, OEM partners, and the delivery team to resolve customer issues and escalations.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team on pricing strategy and product offerings to maximize win rate.
  • Serve as the technical lead in customer meetings, articulating complex energy concepts to diverse audiences
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their energy goals and operational constraints
  • Develop statement of work documents and change orders as part of customer scope changes and/or growth opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key technical and business stakeholders
  • Review architecture, scope and schedule for statement of work and request for proposals documents developed by sales and solutions as part of the pre-sales contracting stage to reduce risk for delivery. Ensure the solution adheres to industry standards.
  • Use tools such as time-series analysis, load forecasting techniques and linear regression combined with understanding of energy consumption patterns and knowledge of utility rate structures and billing mechanisms to transform customer's energy needs to technical project requirements and value to the customer.
  • Prepare reports and high level summaries of technical solutions to C-suite by distilling complex energy data into KPIs, modeling financial impact focused on ROI, and bench mark analysis against industry standards and competitors.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • The person who fills this role may work remotely from anywhere in the US.
  • Knowledge of project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, Microsoft Project)
  • 5% travel to domestic and international locations required.

What You Bring to Uplight

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field plus 5 years of experience.
  • Alternatively, Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field plus 8 years of experience.
  • Experience above must include 5 years of project delivery in distributed energy resources (DERs), Automated and behavioral Demand Response Virtual Power Plants, Distributed Energy Resource Management systems, microgrids, or electric grid interconnects and stability.
  • Experience above must include 5 years in the energy or utility industry working directly with clients, managing customer relationships and business development.
  • Experience above must include 5 years developing proposals and cost estimation for products and services provided in the energy or utility industry.
  • Experience above must include 5 years using data analytics to identify trends and prepare analytical reports for senior leadership in the energy industry.
  • Experience above must include 3 years using solar, battery, and energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of energy demand load forecasting, using tools such as linear regression or stochastic modeling.
