We are seeking an experienced and innovative Engineer, Metal Structures to join our team and help revolutionize industrial heat at scale.

As part of the Structures and Insulations team under the Product Engineering organization, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring that the design of various subsystems within Rondo's Heat Batteries aligns with product requirements and meets performance criteria, including manufacturability and constructability as well as cost-effectiveness.

Your work in this role will be instrumental in driving the success of Rondo's Heat Batteries and our mission to decarbonize the world.

Join our team and together we can reduce world CO₂ emissions by 1% in 10 years, and by 15% in 15 years!

  • Lead the design and development of metal assemblies in Rondo Heat Battery. Assemblies include enclosures, insulation wall systems or various assemblies of air management system such as louvers, ducts, plenums, pipes, etc.
  • Execute structural designs including load calculations, safety margins, and code validation. Where code-based design is insufficient or not directly applicable, develop rigorous, well-documented design methodologies and testing/validation plans to ensure the safety and reliability of the final design solutions.

  • Develop detailed design documentation, including drawings, sketches, calculation reports, and fabrication-ready CAD models.
  • Support developing design requirements and specifications.
  • Support design and construction coordination with internal and external stakeholders such as fabrication partners, EPCs, contractors, and design-assist partners.
  • Support prototyping and/or testing required to achieve robust and cost-effective solutions for our core technology, as well as for tooling and other equipment that supports manufacturing.
  • Operate in an inclusive, collaborative, and iterative design team, contributing to fostering an open engineering culture.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering with a specialization in structures.
  • 5+ years of experience designing metal structural systems, within the context of cold-formed steel structures in industrial settings – enclosures, ductwork, louvers, and their support structures.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable structural codes and standards, particularly AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) and AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable gathering, synthesizing, and disseminating program information among internal and external technical and non-technical parties.
  • Flexibility, openness, and creative problem-solving
  • Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments and embraces collaborative problem-solving

Bonus Points!

  • Experience with modular, high-precision, high-volume steel framing and manufacturing processes, such as roll-formed or pressed sheet metal.
  • Experience in purpose-built, outdoor-rated metal enclosures.
  • Experience with interface designs between metal structures and concrete or refractory assemblies.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
