The Principal Systems Test Engineer is accountable for driving high voltage Systems test platforms from design concept to operation and final reporting. This position will include technical due-diligence, platform architecture development, test planning and procedure development, guidance and operation for new and existing high voltage systems through a stage-gate process including conceptual design, initial system validation, test plan development, and data analysis and reporting. Additionally, they will provide technical reviews, technical leadership and cross-departmental guidance for other Systems engineers as well as regular reviews and updates of department processes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical design and development of high voltage battery strings and systems including AC/DC integration planning, data logging and analysis and test planning and coordination with other departments and engineers.
- Provide technical leadership to the Product Testing and Systems Integration organization. This includes appropriate focus on design, platform construction, data analysis and data reporting within and outside the Systems engineering group.
- Work with management and other teams to define system testing requirements
- Develop data analysis tools for custom system architectures
- Provide guidance and oversight for multiple test platforms with Jr. and Sr. Engineers
- Lead other groups in Engineering in test platform development and operation
- Drive design and testing to ensure safe operation within building codes and requirements.
- Ensure a safe work environment by following health and safety guidelines and policies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to design, build, and safely operate AC-integrated high voltage battery systems with novel control system designs.
- Working knowledge of voltage-current relationships and dependencies for battery systems.
- Proficiency with scalable data analysis tools, platforms and programming languages such as Python and Linux, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with complex battery systems with multiple series and parallel architectures.
- Familiarity and experience with battery management systems development and operation.
- Working knowledge of integrated software-driven sensor based control systems.
- Ability to react and respond to evolving demands of systems data needs from senior management.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, chemical/electrical engineering or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience.
Travel
- Local Travel: 10-25%
- Overnight/North America: 10-25%

- Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
