Job Description
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for completing internal and external reports in a timely manner with excellent attention to detail. All reports must be delivered with perfect quality, often against very tight timescales.
This is a challenging but rewarding role where the successful candidate will deliver output viewed at Senior Management level within ScottishPower & Iberdrola. In addition, the team’s external output is conveyed to OFGEM and DESNZ to inform & support the Government’s commitment to Smart Metering and Net Zero.
Responsibilities
The team has 3 main areas of responsibility which are shared by all Senior Business Analysts
External Reporting covers all reports issued by ScottishPower to OFGEM & DESNZ. These are required under strict timescales and must be completed accurately. There is a full internal review process in place with support from Regulation to ensure the output is appropriately scrutinised before submission.
Internal Reporting covers all internal performance metrics required by the management team to operate the Smart Programme. A core suite of reports is issued daily & weekly with additional monthly, quarterly and annual summaries being required by the internal control team.
The Analysts will also look at emerging business problems on an ad-hoc basis, identifying appropriate data sources and building the analysis tools to answer the business questions using data. It is likely that the output from this workstream will, in some cases, lead to a new regular report being developed & added to the reporting suite.
- All reports & processes in the department are subject to a culture of continuous improvement and all analysts are expected to bring any new learnings in to improve their processes as they arise.
- All of the Analysts are required to be able to deliver the full regular reporting suite of internal reports. This requires a number of database & spreadsheet solutions, coupled with meticulous attention to detail in producing weekly KPI material, which working with the Smart Project Leads to assist with the preparation of the Directors’ Powerpoint slide decks containing the weekly KPI material.
Skills and Requirements
ated to degree level or demonstrable experience of working in high pressure environment to tight deadlines at similar level of skill
- Expert user of key data tools such as
- Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables and PowerQuery are core requirements)
- SQL Coding in Oracle, Azure or equivalent
- Ability to navigate legacy systems such as Microsoft Access
- Data Science skills would be a distinct advantage using Python, R, PowerBI etc.
- Well-developed numerical, analytical and planning skills
- Highly literate with good communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- Appropriate Communication skills to deliver output to all levels of the business to Senior Management level (Directors, CEO, Iberdrola Senior Team to Chairman level)
- Appropriate skills to communicate with Ofgem, DESNZ and other industry parties and consumer groups
- Knowledge of smart metering operational metrics, processes and procedures (desirable)
- Experience of delivering in a reporting role under considerable pressures of time, accuracy and limited resources
- Technical understanding of data extraction techniques and presentation of data in an accessible format which delivers meaningful management insight
- Ability to work as part of a team but also to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
- Advanced / Expert user of the wider set of Microsoft Office products, with the capability to produce professional-level output on PowerPoint and Word with appropriate use of corporate styles & templates
Minimum Criteria
- Experienced analyst, with significant history of delivery in a reporting role
- Core skillset in SQL and Excel with the ability to rapidly assimilate new skills with guidance
