Join the power movement as a CAD Design Engineer

CFS is developing HTS production systems and is hiring a CAD Design Engineer to help design, develop, and build tooling, machinery, and equipment for the HTS manufacturing.

This role requires compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information (collectively, “Export Control Laws). Any offer of employment will be contingent on the need for compliance with such Export Control Laws.

What you'll do

  • Design thermal, chemical, vacuum, and electro-mechanical tools and systems for superconducting magnet materials and supporting systems
  • Work with CFS (engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing) teams and suppliers to deliver prototype and production machinery/equipment that meets design specifications
  • Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis on designs and drawings to ensure they support the functional needs of the design and suitability for the intended fabrication process
  • Create and modify designs (models and supporting drawings) in NX and Teamcenter. Support the engineering team by providing design, drafting and engineering releases
  • Have technical depth and proven experience with ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Design and release components and assemblies
  • Assure that CAD designs and documentation comply with industry and internal CAD standards. Be part of a matrix organization as a member of the CAD Team reporting to a CAD Team Leader/Manager
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary and proven team of top scientists and engineers to support our functional team onsite in Milpitas, CA where we specialize in High-temperature superconductors

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM related field
  • Experience with engineering release work flows and PLM tools
  • Three to five years of experience as a design engineer of mechanical, electro-mechanical or thermal-mechanical systems
  • Ability to perform tolerance analysis
  • Three to five years applying GD&T per ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5
  • Minimum of three years of experience in application of Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience with DFM principles and methods
  • Self motivated and ability to apply problem solving methods
  • Experience with rotating machinery, mechanism design, cable winding, soldering or chemical transfer systems

Bonus points for

  • Master’s degree in engineering or STEM related field
  • Experience with Solidworks CAD
  • Design for serviceability
  • Hands on fabrication and assembly skills
  • Rigid body kinematics analysis, thermal analysis and finite element analysis
  • Experience designing or manufacturing vacuum systems
  • Commercialization of new technology
  • Experience with thin film processes or production equipment

Must-have Requirements

  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, sitting, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call

$90,000 - $145,000 a year

Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Benefits include:
