Initially established by Macquarie's Green Investment Group, Eku Energy is jointly owned by a Macquarie Asset Management managed fund and British Columbia Investment Management, two financial powerhouses advancing the renewable energy transition. Due to Eku's accelerated growth period since launching in November 2022, the company now have 7 projects in either construction or operation with 50+ projects in the pipeline globally.
Introduction to the role
The EMEA Intern will work with the Eku Energy EMEA office across multiple functions including Investment, Development, Engineering, Markets & Trading, Asset Management, and Transaction Support. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience to the development, execution, and management of battery energy storage projects across the EMEA portfolio.
Reporting to an Investment Associate and working closely with junior and senior members of the EMEA team, the Intern will support a range of project activities across development, procurement, due diligence, and reporting. The role will span multiple live projects and workstreams, providing structured exposure across different stages of the project lifecycle, from early-stage site screening through to construction support, asset management, and investment processes.
As part of a lean, collaborative team, the Intern will be supported to take ownership of defined tasks, work across disciplines, and adapt priorities as business needs evolve. This role is intended as a pilot for Eku Energy's broader internship programme and will be structured to provide clear supervision, feedback and learning objectives throughout the placement.
Responsibilities of the role
- Support EMEA investment, development, engineering, procurement, and markets & trading teams across battery energy storage projects.
- Assist with the screening and evaluation of new site opportunities in the UK, Italy, and Germany by assisting with the preparation of internal due diligence and project screening packs.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors to gather technical, commercial, and cost inputs required for development, planning, and investment processes.
- Support early-stage financial modelling, analysis, and documentation of key assumptions, sensitivities, and risks.
- Support development and planning activities by assisting in the preparation, organisation, and quality control of planning application materials and supporting technical documentation.
- Maintain structured project files and virtual data rooms (VDRs), ensuring information is accurate, up to date, and clearly organised.
- Support legal, technical, and commercial due diligence processes, including Q&A coordination, document tracking, engineering documentation and information requests.
- Assist in developing and maintaining cost comparison tools and pricing models using historic and live project data.
- Support asset management and reporting activities, including the preparation of asset performance, trading, and budget reports.
- Assist in the preparation of materials for internal investment committee and board meetings.

- Participate as an active member of a global team. Share with and learn from colleagues with similar responsibilities around the world to incorporate lessons learned and continuously improve technical practices within Eku
- Uphold the highest standards of safety practices in the office and on site and ensuring the same HSEQ standards are practiced by the contractors and partners who work with us.
Requirements
- Ongoing or completed studies in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or be enrolled in a relevant business, finance, or energy-focused Master programme.
- Alternatively, prior internship or early-career experience in the energy, infrastructure, utilities, or industrial sectors.
- A strong interest in power systems, battery energy storage, or the broader energy transition.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data, assumptions, and basic financial or technical concepts.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- A proactive, curious mindset and willingness to learn across disciplines.
- Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with financial models or CAD tools is a plus but not required.
- European language skills (particularly Italian or German) are a strong advantage.
