Job Description
ScottishPower's RIIO-T3 Business Plan is a £12 billion investment to upgrade and expand the electricity transmission network across Central and Southern Scotland from 2026 to 2031. This exciting investment plan aims to connect up to 19GW of clean energy, support over 11,000 jobs, and accelerate the UK's journey to Net Zero by 2035.
Role
The position of Senior Project Manager sits within SP Transmission's Strategic Projects Development team. In this role you'll be responsible for taking the lead in succinct work packages and interfacing with stakeholders to realise schedule and Capex budget for one of the largest reinforcement projects within SP Transmission's licence area.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Lead Project Manager you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and adherence to budget, quality, and timelines.
- Owning project governance - manage contracts, financial forecasting, and risk mitigation throughout the full lifecycle.
- Drive performance and efficiency by identifying and implementing innovation, value engineering, and best practices to outperform price control targets.
- Manage project programmes, ensuring accurate scheduling and resource planning across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Managing a range of multi-disciplinary internal teams and external contractors and ensuring delivery of key project outputs in line with business targets.
- Champion stakeholder engagement-build strong relationships internally (design, PMO, environment, sustainability, land & planning, regulation, procurement and legal) and externally (local authorities, contractors, regulators, communities).
- Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned, project reviews, and sharing best practices across the wider portfolio.
What you'll bring
- Proven leadership in the development stage of projects (design and consenting) preferably for electrical infrastructure or transmission projects.
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Expertise in project management methodologies, risk management, and contract administration (NEC, JCT, FIDIC).
- A working knowledge of the technical characteristics and workings of the Electricity Transmission System.
- Experience of infrastructure planning and consenting requirements including Section 37 and EIA.
- Financial acumen - forecasting, cost control, and capital efficiency planning.
- Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly CDM regulations.
- Managing stakeholders and Governance for allocated projects.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders without direct line authority.
- Strategic problem-solving skills - able to devise solutions for complex challenges and drive efficiency.
- Excellent organisational and planning capability, managing long-term, multi-year projects and multi-disciplinary resources.
- Commitment to quality and continuous improvement, ensuring best practice adoption across the portfolio.
- Driving license (travel across SPEN locations required).
Minimum Criteria
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary team environments.
- Working knowledge of NEC 3 / 4 contract frameworks.
- Experience of managing a complex programme of contracts, multiple work programmes and commercial contracts.
- Section 37 and EIA experience.
