Job Description

The Grid Manager Portugal is responsible for leading all grid connection activities for Nadara Group's renewable energy projects in Portugal, from early stage feasibility to final connection agreements. The role ensures full compliance with Portuguese regulatory frameworks, coordinates technical interfaces with the national TSO (REN) and DSOs (EDP Distribuição, Iberdrola, etc.), and provides strategic guidance on electrical design, permitting constraints, and connection risks across multiple projects.

Main Responsibilities

Grid Connection Strategy & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage the full grid‑connection process in Portugal, from initial assessment to final agreement, ensuring alignment with REN/TSO and DSO requirements.
  • Engage proactively with key stakeholders (REN, DSOs, municipalities, regulators, consultants) to secure timely and compliant connection solutions.
  • Identify early‑stage risks related to grid capacity, network reinforcements, curtailment exposure, and regulatory constraints.

Technical & Regulatory Analysis

  • Analyse potential connection options, associated costs, technical feasibility, and programme impacts, providing structured inputs to project risk registers.
  • Monitor Portuguese transmission and distribution regulatory frameworks, including changes introduced by ERSE, DGEG, and national energy transition policies.
  • Participate in consultations, working groups, and forums with government bodies, regulators, TSOs, DSOs, and industry associations related to renewable energy development.

Project Electrical Design

  • Define the electrical layout of projects (feasibility/basic/executive design), with focus on HV and MV systems, substations, and grid‑connection infrastructure.
  • Select main electrical equipment (cables, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, substation layout) ensuring compliance with Portuguese standards and Nadara Group specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (project managers, engineers, business development) to ensure coherent and optimized electrical design across multiple projects.

Procurement & Technical Governance

  • Provide technical support to Procurement during RfPs for substations, transformers, switchgear, and main electrical equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain Nadara technical specifications to support standardization across the portfolio.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers to verify product suitability, compliance, and compatibility with project requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5-6+ years of experience in grid connection, electrical engineering, or similar roles within the Portuguese energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of the Portuguese electricity market, including REN transmission rules, DSO processes, ERSE regulation, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Experience with grid‑connection applications, network studies, and technical submissions to REN and DSOs.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal teams, external partners, regulators, and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English.
  • Proficient in MS Office and technical engineering tools.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing consultants, EPCs, and engineering contractors.
  • Understanding of environmental and sustainability aspects related to grid infrastructure.
  • Additional language skills (Spanish or Italian preferred).

What This Role Delivers

  • Secure, compliant, and cost‑effective grid‑connection solutions for Nadara's Portuguese portfolio.
  • Early identification and mitigation of grid‑related risks.
  • Standardized and technically robust electrical designs across projects.
  • Strong relationships with Portuguese regulators, TSOs, DSOs, and industry stakeholders.
