BESS Research & Software Engineer

Job Description

3E is looking for a new expert to reinforce the innovation team in the development of digital solutions with a focus on storage (BESS) applications for utility-scale implementation.

In this role, you work closely together with the storage scientist who is conducting the research in order to understand the needed components and features for the application to be succesful. Your job will be to translate these findings into a proof of concept through scientific programming, with which our software development team can get to work to create the commercial software package to integrate into our platform.

As a storage developer in the innovation department, you will support our team by:

• contributing to the scientific development (in Python) of our physics-based and AI-powered storage analytics
• actively following up the state-of-the-art to continuously improve our digital twin model for assets flexibility and storage applications
• bringing the R&D results to real-life implementation through programming, analyse data, and developing models to optimize storage performance and operation and in this way, delivering proof of concept
• managing and contributing to the execution and acquisition of R&D projects, funded at European, national, or regional levels;
• providing support to solution owners to define the R&D strategy, in line with our internal roadmap

Requirements

You are an open-minded and proactive team player with good communication skills who enjoys challenges and growing an innovative product to the next level.

Our ideal candidate must have:

• A master's degree in Engineering, physics or similar
• 1-2 years of hands-on experience in advanced analytics [Physics-based modelling/ Machine learning/ Blackbox]
  We are open to a rather junior profile with the right skills and mindset, who can work autonomously and efficiently in a flexible environment.
• An innovative mindset with strong innovation skills, finding the right balance between state-of-art, reliability and cost-efficiency
• Knowledge of Battery assets and Flexibility in power grids.
• Proficiency in Python and data science stack

Bonus points for:

• Experience with innovation-oriented programming and data science
• Software development skills such as Object Oriented programming and use of Git
• Knowledge of battery market integration in ancillary services
• Spanish, French or Dutch proficiency
