Job Description
Shape the future of decarbonization policy! At 3Degrees, a leading B Corp in the environmental commodities market, we're on a mission to empower organizations to achieve a sustainable future. 3Degrees’ Research & Analysis team is charged with evaluating market and regulatory risks and opportunities related to 3Degrees’ environmental commodities and services. The Research & Analysis team consists of 3-pillars–Market Analysis, Data Management, Regulatory Affairs– who collectively provide market intelligence, data management support, and regulatory and policy support to strengthen the company’s expertise in existing markets and also spur creation in new markets. This Policy Manager role, specifically a member of the Regulatory Affairs team, offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of policy engagement and market analysis. You'll play a vital role in influencing policy outcomes, guiding corporate carbon reduction strategies, and ultimately accelerating the transition to a clean energy future.
This is a full time, exempt role reporting to the Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs. We value camaraderie and the benefits of in-person connection. We prefer candidates to join us in a voluntary flexible hybrid work style at one of our office hubs in San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Portland, ME; or New York, NY. This voluntary model provides flexibility while fostering team collaboration. Exceptional remote candidates within the US will also be considered. Periodic travel may be required for training or team collaboration and to conferences and customers as required. Frequency and cadence is team dependent, but on average is 1-6 times annually.

What You’ll Do
As a key member of our dynamic Regulatory Affairs team, you'll lead the policy engagement strategy related to 3Degrees’ transportation and carbon compliance markets. Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead Policy Engagement: Be the voice of 3Degrees, cultivating relationships with government agencies, NGOs, trade associations, and stakeholders to champion our policy priorities in North American transportation and carbon compliance markets. This includes actively participating in stakeholder processes to advocate for impactful policy changes
- Analyze market trends and policy developments: Translate complex policy issues into actionable insights for businesses, particularly as they relate to sourcing renewable energy in supply chains. Your expertise will help minimize risk and capture opportunities for 3Degrees and our clients
- Strategic Guidance & Influence: Leverage your market intelligence to provide strategic input to leadership. Identify and manage consultants in key markets to further support policy tracking and success in influencing policy outcomes
- Thought Leadership & Advocacy: Represent 3Degrees in meetings with government agencies, stakeholder groups, at public forums, and through speaking engagements at conferences. Partner with our Marketing team to craft thought leadership content, including blog posts, opinion pieces, white papers, and other collateral to elevate our visibility as a leader and innovator in the decarbonization space
- Policy Communication & Advocacy: Ensure clear and impactful communication on policy issues. Write, review, and edit 3Degrees’ comments for public submission in various policy forums
About You
You are a passionate advocate for decarbonization with a deep understanding of environmental policy and market dynamics. You possess a proven track record of influencing policy outcomes and translating complex policy issues into actionable insights for businesses. Your leadership style fosters a collaborative and high-performing environment within the Regulatory Affairs team. In addition, we believe that an individual with the following experience will have the best opportunity for success in this role:
- Proven experience leading policy engagement efforts
- 5+ years of experience in environmental policy analysis, regulatory affairs, or a related field
- Strong understanding of environmental commodity markets, including transportation markets and carbon compliance mechanisms
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data and policy changes into clear and concise reports and communication materials
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present findings to diverse audiences and advocate for policy positions
- Experience collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and industry stakeholders
- Proficiency in data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn new technologies
- A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a work environment where everyone feels valued and respected

Within 30 days,
- Gain a solid understanding of 3Degrees’ mission, business goals, and strategic priorities for decarbonization policy
- Become familiar with the Research & Analysis team structure, processes, tools, and key stakeholders
- Build strong working relationships with your team members, colleagues across departments, and external stakeholders
Within 90 days,
- Begin to independently contribute to policy engagement efforts, including attending meetings and participating in stakeholder processes
- Demonstrate a strong grasp of key environmental policy issues impacting transportation markets and carbon compliance
- Start to develop and deliver clear and concise communication materials related to policy changes and market trends
Within 6 months,
- Lead and manage policy engagement efforts for assigned policy initiatives
- Independently analyze market trends and policy developments, translating complex information into actionable insights for Environmental Markets teams
- Utilize market intelligence to provide strategic input to leadership
Within 1 year,
- Become a recognized thought leader in your area of expertise, representing 3Degrees at conferences and industry events
- Independently managing consultant relationships in key markets to enhance policy tracking and advocacy efforts
- Consistently deliver high-quality written and verbal communication on policy issues, effectively advocating for impactful changes
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of all aspects of the "What You'll Do" section, executing these tasks independently and with minimal supervision
- Contribute significantly to the achievement of departmental and company goals related to policy and market intelligence
Compensation & Benefits
The following compensation and benefits information is based on 3Degrees’ good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future:
- Compensation: The starting base salary for this position is $89,000 - $120,000 in the US. Base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands.
- Benefits: This position is eligible for a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, flexible paid time off, and more. Additional information regarding the benefits available for this position can be found here.
- Supplemental Pay: This position may be eligible to participate in discretionary bonus programs based on personal, department and company goals. *This compensation and benefits information is based on 3Degrees’ good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.
