Software Engineer, II
ecoLong is building software platforms that enable grid-interactive buildings, community-scale energy coordination, and resilient infrastructure. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven Software Engineer II to support our continued growth and innovation as we deploy real-world pilots and scale our technology platform.
Objective
As a Software Engineer, II you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting software solutions across our platform, including energy optimization and coordination, secure data exchange, and distributed system operations. You will work closely with product, operations, and research partners to deliver reliable, scalable software that supports pilots, partnerships, and long-term platform growth.
Primary Responsibilities for the role (including, but not limited to)
- Design, document, and develop high-quality software solutions across multiple platforms and environments
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and platform integrations supporting energy and building applications
- Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance existing systems to improve performance, reliability, and scalability
- Identify process improvements, best practices, and opportunities to improve development workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-evolving, startup environment
Ideal candidates will possess the following
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience
- Strong development experience in one or more languages such as Python, Java, Go, Rust, or similar
- Experience working within Agile / SCRUM product development environments
- Experience building pipelines to automate software development, testing, and deployment
- Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) or serverless/cloud services
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving requirements
- Interest in sustainability, energy systems, or technology that supports community-scale impact

Salary and Benefits
Commensurate with experience annual base salary ranging from $90,000 to $115,000. Benefits include flexible, partially employer-funded health insurance, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off, and flexible work arrangements.
