Job Description

With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Strategic Project team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.

SPEN are currently recruiting a Senior Engineer (Engineering Coordination Manager) to join the SP Transmission Strategic team to manage and coordinate engineering interface activities from feasibility to detailed engineering designs for transmission network projects (132kV and above) for all engineering disciplines i.e. Substations, Civils, Protection and Control and Circuits.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Engineer (Engineering Coordination Manager), you can expect to:

  • Manage interfaces and information flow between EPC contractors and OEM suppliers to ensure deliverables and programme milestones are maintained or accelerated.
  • Manage all engineering information exchanges, such as drawings, surveys, layouts, calculations, etc. from concept design to VFC stage. Information can be received in any format and from several resources.
  • Participate in weekly/monthly meetings to ensure interfaces and engineering coordination between different contractors are managed and any interface/design risks are highlighted and recorded.
  • Setting up interface meetings between framework contractors, OEM suppliers and other SPEN functions such as Asset Management and Standards to ensure design information and requirements are agreed and risks are recorded and mitigated.
  • Actively ensuring projects meet their obligations as a Principal Designer under CDM regulations by ensuring design risks are recorded and up to date and all relevant information is logged and shared with appropriate parties.
  • Ensuring delivery is de-risked with input to early stages of design with EPC contractors and provision of accurate and timely information.
  • Coordinate with other SPT/SPD projects such as connections or asset modernization, ensuring efficiencies in design, delivery and system access by working with the various stakeholders and engineering teams.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated design solutions.
  • Perform all duties with and promote internally and externally a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Drive industry best practice and technological advances within the project team/department.

What you'll bring

  • Ability to understand and coordinate the transfer of information between interested parties in a rigorous and timely manner.
  • Experience in working with CDE tools such as ACC and ProjectWise.
  • Demonstratable experience from one or more engineering disciplines such as: Substations, Civils, Protection and Control, OHL, Drawing Office and BIM.
  • Experience in Electricity Network Construction Projects is preferrable.
  • Experience in working in dynamic project environments and ensuring availability of data and information to maintain programme and project delivery.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse and demanding workload
  • Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.

To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience working in an EPC environment delivering engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex Plant Engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
