Job Description

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world's first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

The Power Electrical Engineer brings our mission to life at the electron level. You'll design, assemble, install, and maintain the electrical systems our infrastructure depends on: energy storage, energy management, LV power distribution, grid-tied inverters, motor drives, protective relays, automatic transfer switches, and AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion - all at 1000V and below. Every electron in our products flows through your work. You'll do it on a small team, with a hybrid schedule and an async culture built for focused, heads-down work. You'll have mentorship and hands-on guidance from experienced engineers as you grow into the role.

Who You Are

  • You care about work that matters. The idea of building energy systems that protect communities and stabilize the grid isn't a nice-to-have, it's why you're here.
  • You say what you think, directly and early. You don't bury the lead, you don't wait for permission to raise a problem, and you give feedback the same way you'd want to receive it.
  • You move fast without cutting corners. You know the difference between speed that creates momentum and speed that creates rework. You hold both standards at once.
  • You own your work end to end. You don't hand things over the fence. You follow through, ask questions when something's unclear, and take responsibility when something's off.
  • Strong opinions, loosely held. You're optimistic about hard problems. You advocate for what you believe is right and keep an open mind when collaborators suggest reasons for a change.
  • You think in systems. You understand that your work connects to other people's work, and you make decisions with that in mind.
  • You thrive in a "fail fast" environment. You don't need a lot of management to do great work. You need clear context, good people around you, mentorship as you grow, and room to figure things out.
  • You work with a bias toward progress. You know what you're working toward, you can see the board, and you move the right things forward without waiting to be told what's next.

Responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Develop AC-DC and DC-DC power distribution systems and control panel designs based on project requirements and industry standards (NEC, UL, IEEE, etc.).
  • Assist with tuning and commissioning of grid-tied inverters and motor drive systems to ensure stability during operation.
  • Assist with short circuit studies, load flow analysis, and protection coordination studies for DERs, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings.
  • Prepare design calculations, material selection guidelines, technical reports, and budget estimates for energy storage system development and testing.
  • Create engineering deliverables, including electrical schematics, SLDs, cabinet layouts, O&M manuals, FAT and SAT protocols, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with local and regional codes, including NFPA 70.

Collaboration and Support

  • Document findings of best practices of querying memory registers.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to improve product integration and control.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of panel designs, modifications, and testing procedures.
  • Assist in creating installation and service manuals for products.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Or equivalent hands-on experience that tells the same story.
  • Early to mid-career Electrical Engineer with 0-5+ years' experience in electrical panel design and diagnostics.
  • Gaining proficiency to proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN. You know your way around the tools.
  • Solid understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit design. You can read and produce them confidently.
  • Comfortable on the bench and at the desk. Hands-on experience with electrical tools and equipment is expected.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving instincts.
  • Clear communicator who contributes well in a small, collaborative team.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in renewable energy equipment and installations; you've seen how these systems live in the real world.
  • Comfortable with C++, Python, Arduino, and MODBUS; you can hold your own where software meets hardware.
  • Hands-on familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation; you understand the full stack from control logic to physical output.
