Job Description

Utah Clean Energy is a nonprofit organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah that advocates for local climate solutions. Our multi-disciplinary team is leading and accelerating the clean energy transformation with vision and expertise. We are committed to creating a future that ensures healthy, thriving communities for all, powered and sustained by clean energy.

Utah Clean Energy is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to serve as our Development Associate. Reporting to the Development Director, this position has responsibility for meeting mutually agreed-upon Annual Fund and Clean Energy Business Coalition goals. The Development Associate prepares donor acknowledgment and stewardship materials, provides donor database management, and event support. The primary focus of this role is fundraising with some cross-functional support to the Communications Director. This position plays an important role on the Utah Clean Energy team in helping to ensure Utah Clean Energy has the financial resources needed to achieve our mission.

Responsibilities

Annual Fund: Donor Engagement, Cultivation and Stewardship

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward Annual Fund donors in coordination with the Development Director;
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase Annual Fund gifts, including leadership giving programs, summer and end-of-year matching challenge campaigns, Live PC Give PC, and Up For Air;
  • Execute day-to-day tasks related to the Annual Fund;
  • Cultivate lasting relationships with Annual Fund donors by providing updates and reports on the impact of their support;
  • Identify prospective Annual Fund donors who may be strong candidates for major gift cultivation for further strategy development with the Development Director;
  • Meet Annual Fund goals as determined annually in conversation with the Development Director.

Clean Energy Business Coalition Membership Management

  • Development and implementation of strategies for enrolling new members;
  • Annual membership renewals;
  • Manage onboarding of new members including across software platforms Network For Good, Asana, and on the Utah Clean Energy website;
  • Ensure CEBC website accurately reflects current members;
  • Ensure annual CEBC leave behind collateral is updated and accurate year to year;
  • Meet annual CEBC membership revenue goals as determined in conversation with the Development Director.

Communications and Mailings

  • Cross-functional support to Communications Director;
  • Manage hardcopy appeals;
  • Assist with Utah Clean Energy's annual impact report mailing;
  • Assist with holiday gift delivery.

Data Management and Donor Acknowledgements

  • Properly document all types of donations;
  • Generate gift acknowledgement letters and ensure they are sent in a timely manner;
  • Ensure thank you letter templates are updated annually;
  • In coordination with the Development Director, record thank you videos and prepare other special acknowledgements to donors;
  • Assist with all aspects of donor stewardship tasks such as holiday and recognition gifts;
  • Exercise best practices in maintaining clean data, ensuring data entry is accurate and comprehensive, and identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures.

Events and Meetings

  • Manage logistics for external events and meetings ensuring they are professionally planned, implemented, and concluded - tasks may include RSVPs, guest lists, name tags, securing catering/managing take-out orders, etc.

Development Projects Coordination and Support

  • Provide general administrative support to the Development team;
  • Grant management;
  • Track progress on key metrics toward strategic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One to four years of experience in public facing role including fundraising, communications, or event management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience working directly with donors and prospective donors to build lasting relationships and help them achieve their philanthropic goals
  • Experience planning, organizing, and executing events
  • Experience creating direct mail and/or email fundraising, sales, or marketing pieces
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Growth mindset
  • Highly organized and self-directed with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to respond flexibly and creatively within a dynamic environment
  • Eager to take on a wide variety of tasks and help with all aspects of a small nonprofit organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One to two years frontline fundraising experience
  • Experience utilizing project management software (e.g. Asana)
  • Experience utilizing donor management software (e.g. Network For Good)

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is dependent on relevant and demonstrated experience.

Utah Clean Energy's benefits package includes company-paid health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan contributions, life and long-term disability insurance coverage, paid vacation leave, sick leave, holiday leave, parental leave, sabbatical program, and a hybrid work environment.
