Job Description

As Community Fund Manager, you will lead the strategic delivery of our community investment programmes, ensuring alignment with regulatory and stakeholder expectations. You will manage a team of experienced Team Managers, each responsible for delivering specific elements of funding programmes, and oversee the successful deployment of funding to maximise community outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement an overarching strategy for Community Funds, ensuring alignment with government policy and regulatory guidance.
- Team Management: Lead and support several Team Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture across all programme teams. Determine the process and resource requirements to successfully manage community funding ensuring that SPEN are protected reputationally, and that stakeholders, funders and applicants are effectively managed.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with local authorities, community groups, charities, and internal stakeholders to ensure the fund delivers meaningful and measurable benefits.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure robust governance, reporting, and compliance with funding criteria, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Own the development, due diligence and management of all external contracts for SPEN's high profile community funded projects, ensuring that they limit risk for the business and that all contractual deliverables are aligned to the contract with the regulator.
- Impact Measurement: Oversee the development of KPIs and impact frameworks to monitor and report on the social, economic, and environmental outcomes of funded projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance programme delivery, streamline processes, and innovate in community engagement and funding models.
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience in managing large-scale community investment or grant programmes.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-tiered teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into operational delivery.
- Knowledge of sustainability, social value, and community development principles.
- Experience working in or with regulated industries is desirable.
As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience of managing and influencing external and internal stakeholders at senior management level in the organisation.
- Experience of managing community engagement or community funding.
- Ideally, relevant experience in utilities.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective at planning and organising.
