Company Overview

Eavor Technologies Inc.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

2017

Employee count is not publicly specified, and as a private company, no 2023 or later revenue figures are disclosed (source: wikipedia.org).

What They Do

Eavor Technologies focuses exclusively on next-generation closed-loop geothermal technology, specifically the Eavor-Loop™, which connects two vertical wells with multiple horizontal multilateral wellbores to form a sealed subsurface radiator that extracts heat from hot rock via conduction, circulating a proprietary working fluid added at the surface rather than reservoir brine (source: wikipedia.org). Key innovations include Rock-Pipe™, a patented chemical seal that isolates the fluid from surrounding rock to prevent seepage, and Magnetic Ranging technology adapted from oil and gas for precise well intersections using magnetic signals between drilling assemblies (source: wikipedia.org). The system delivers thermal energy for direct heating/cooling applications like district heating or greenhouses, or converts it to electricity via heat engines, operating without pumps via the thermosiphon effect, producing utility-scale output equivalent to heating 16,000 homes per installation, with dispatchable, baseload capabilities including black-start and fast ramping (source: eavor.com). Target markets include direct heat in Europe, electricity generation in the western US, district heating feasibility studies in Toronto with Enwave and Vancouver with Creative Energy, and island markets for high-emission areas, emphasizing scalability anywhere due to no need for aquifers, fracking, or high water use (source: northamericaoutlookmag.com). Eavor differentiates from conventional geothermal and Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) by avoiding convection, fracking risks, seismicity, aquifer dependency, and water treatment, enabling predictable output, standardized manufacturing like wind/solar, and operation across diverse geologies with minimal maintenance (source: eavor.com).

Projects & Track Record

The Derek Riddell Eavor-Lite™ Demonstration Facility near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada, was a full-scale prototype completed with drilling starting August 2019 and decommissioned in late 2024, featuring two vertical wells connected by two multilateral wells at 2.4 km depth plus a surface pipeline, validating drilling, Rock-Pipe™ sealing, thermosiphon effect, and thermodynamic performance within 2% of predictions over five years (source: wikipedia.org). Eavor-Deep™, a 2022 test site in New Mexico, USA, drilled the hottest and deepest directional geothermal well in history to demonstrate commercial Eavor-Loop™ components for deep, high-temperature rock, targeting US, European, and Asia-Pacific markets (source: wikipedia.org). The Geretsried project in Germany achieved first electricity production from closed-loop multilateral wells, proving 24/7 clean heat and power with innovations like 50% drilling time reduction per lateral, 3x bit run length improvement, Insulated Drill Pipe, Active Magnetic Ranging, and Rock-Pipe™ (source: eavor.com). In Hanover, Germany, Eavor signed a September 2023 heat supply agreement with enercity for up to 30 MW thermal (250 million kWh/year, heating 20,000 homes) using Eavor-Loop™, with delivery delayed to 2027 as of late 2024 (source: wikipedia.org). Key partnerships include enercity, Enwave, Creative Energy, and investors like Canada Growth Fund; geographic presence spans Canada (Alberta), USA (New Mexico), Germany (Geretsried, Hanover), with expansion into Europe for heat and western US/North America for electricity, plus global scalability ambitions (source: wikipedia.org).

Recent Developments

In 2023, Eavor signed the Hanover heat supply agreement with enercity for 30 MW thermal delivery by 2027 (source: wikipedia.org). At the Geretsried site in Germany, Eavor achieved first electricity production from closed-loop multilateral wells, as announced by President and CEO Mark Fitzgerald, confirming black-start capability, fast ramping, and no-load operation for months, alongside a white paper at the Geothermal Rising Conference detailing 50% drilling time cuts and enabling tech deployments (source: eavor.com). The Eavor-Lite™ facility was decommissioned in late 2024 after successful five-year operation (source: wikipedia.org). Canada Growth Fund made its first investment in Eavor, enabling commercialization push post-proof-of-concept (source: youtube.com). A July 2024 documentary "Underground, Underdog: The Eavor Story" detailed founding challenges and oil/gas expertise repurposing (source: eavor.com). Eavor continues feasibility studies in North American districts and global expansion, with CEO John Redfern noting 2018 founding (refining Wikipedia's 2017 date in some contexts) and fringe-to-mainstream shift amid AI-driven clean energy demand (source: thelogic.co).

Working There

Eavor, led by figures like CEO John Redfern, President Mark Fitzgerald, VP Business Development Neil Ethier, and CTO Matt Towes, draws heavily from oil and gas expertise for roles in drilling, engineering, technology development, business development, and project management, with teams focused on R&D for Eavor-Loop™, Rock-Pipe™, and Magnetic Ranging innovations (source: eavor.com). Primary hiring occurs at Calgary headquarters for technical, operational, and corporate roles, with Eavor GmbH in Germany supporting project-specific positions in Geretsried and Hanover developments (source: cbinsights.com). Culture indicators from founder accounts highlight persistence through early skepticism, working unpaid initially, patent protections amid doubters, and a visionary drive to scale geothermal globally, fostering a tight-knit team from oil/gas repurposing with emphasis on disruptive innovation and rapid iteration as seen in 50% drilling improvements (source: youtube.com). Specific benefits are not detailed in public sources, though the company's global investor backing and project milestones suggest competitive cleantech perks tied to equity and growth in a high-potential sector (source: eavor.de). Job seekers should monitor the Calgary headquarters and LinkedIn for openings in engineering, drilling tech, and business development amid ongoing US and European projects (source: linkedin.com).

Job Description

Eavor Technologies Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Control Systems Engineer with extensive experience designing and tuning control systems for both individual components and large-scale, integrated systems.

In this role, you will architect the overall control system design and functional specification for a next-generation drilling system, integrating proven technologies with proprietary Eavor innovations. The system will evolve from a minimum viable product with advisory functionality to model-level control, driven by physics-based simulations and informed by real-time telemetry.

Your initial deliverable will be an integrated virtual control system model (SIL/HIL/digital twin) used to simulate, validate, and optimize operational procedures. You will collaborate closely with external partners, service providers, and consultants responsible for subsystem controls-ensuring that hierarchical procedures are properly triggered and executed across a wide range of simulated scenarios.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a systems-thinking mindset, and the ability to integrate complex control architectures into cohesive, scalable designs.

This hybrid role is based in Calgary, Alberta, with occasional travel as required by business needs.

We invite you to read more about Eavor at our website or LinkedIn.

Some of What You Will Do

  • Define and maintain the overall control system architecture: establish hierarchy, redundancy, communications, and cybersecurity boundaries for integrated operations.
  • Lead development of the supervisory control layer: integrate vendor subsystems and manage constraints, coordination logic, and system interactions in alignment with defined Control Law.
  • Architect control logic and interlocks: design systems that guide operators naturally toward correct actions and safeguard against unintended behavior.
