Job Description
The Senior Manager Development - Strategy will lead internal strategy projects and strategy development for NextEra Energy's Development organization. The position is on-site and sits within NextEra's Development group, reporting to the Executive Director Development, Strategy.
This highly visible role involves supporting the creation and development of the annual corporate strategy presentations for the Development team and participating in a variety of key development-specific strategic initiatives. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Senior Manager will support design and build out of the overall strategy for the development organization at NextEra, which involves:
- Supporting the setting of the agenda for annual infrastructure development strategy session.
- Working closely with the senior leadership team in Infrastructure Development to develop the business strategy and assist in crafting the narrative on the future direction
- Conducting detailed market assessment to understand expected future demand and market drivers by region, technology and customer type.
- Identifying the strategic opportunities that will drive growth, generate the highest value, and create future competitive advantage for NextEra Energy Resources.
- Understanding current value/ profit pools, and how are they likely to evolve in the future to outline where to play - by regions and customers - to maximize value creation and define market share targets.
- Evaluating and identifying strategic customers to target based on return potential, size of the opportunity and ability to win
- Assessing current development pipeline and matching it against targets to understand gaps and develop our greenfield and M&A strategy to address the gaps.
- Collaborating with the regional development leaders to identify business issues critical to their strategic and operational success.
- Partnering cross-functionally with other business units to drive analysis on cross-functional topics and understand implications of their strategy on the Infrastructure Development organization.
- Developing tactical execution next steps, resourcing requirements and operational enablers needed to address critical issues and execute on the outlined strategy.
- Presenting progress on solutions to leadership, including relevant analysis, findings, and recommendations.
Additionally, the Senior Manager also plays a pivotal role in developing and refining the process to maximize value from our development portfolio, which involves:
- Collaborating with Development and Origination leaders to identify critical issues, trade-offs and process checks needed to steer and position projects proactively to maximize value creation.
- Providing thought leadership and execution support to craft strategies and initiatives to improve and maximize value for renewable energy projects across the development portfolio (wind, solar, and battery).
- Constructing the analytical framework and work steps for identified issues, and leading the problem-solving process associated.
- Developing relationships with business leaders and operators and engaging in continuous dialogue to gather feedback, improve processes, and influence outcomes.
- Possessing enough quantitative experience to effectively evaluate strategic initiatives, including project valuation, cost-benefit analysis, scenario analysis, NPV (Net Present Value), and IRR (Internal Rate of Return).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
The Senior Manager is tasked with leveraging management consulting skills to collaborate with internal NextEra leaders throughout all stages of strategy development and strategic initiatives. Job Overview

This job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost effective and competitive manner. This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed on time and within budgetary constraints.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive results
- Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
- Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
- Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
- Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
- Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
- Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
- Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
- Identifies opportunities and negotiates power sales contracts
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
