Job Description

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the main purpose of the role is to support the development, management and implementation of health and safety policy, strategy and agreed operating plan objectives across ScottishPower. The aim is to achieve world class performance levels working in partnership with employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public.

What you'll be doing

  • Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure suitable controls are established, monitored and controlled in order to provide a safe working environment for the area of the post holder's area of responsibility
  • Provide professional leadership and direction to Senior Management and Project Managers across ScottishPower Renewables (SPR)
  • Lead and deliver projects and programmes to meet operating objectives within performance metrics and agreed deliverables
  • Undertaking continual improvement projects demonstrating ability to impact assess options and provide recommendations for implementation.
  • Supporting hazard analysis exercises and technical risk management support for projects
  • Undertaking, as Lead Auditor, audits assessing compliance with ISO 45001 and site inspections assessing general operating practices
  • Collaborating with other Health and Safety professionals on developing new renewable technology projects e.g., Solar, Battery Storage and Wind
  • Supporting projects and operational business in assessing and evaluating design risks
  • Develop opportunities for best-practice exchanges including regular facilitation of workshops.
  • Providing H&S support to our operational sites (over 2000MW across 40+ locations), working within a team of H&S consultants
  • Supporting the safe delivery of our construction programme covering wind, solar and battery storage projects, from conception to operational handover
  • Leading on H&S projects and initiatives designed to reduce risk or to improve standards across our portfolio

What you'll bring

  • Educated to degree level or significant compensatory experience
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health is desirable
  • A self-starter and able to work on own initiative with minimal direction
  • Knowledge and experience of project management
  • A clear understanding of the whole value chain and the key processes within each business
  • Ability to operate and positively influence at all levels in the organisation and with external stakeholders
  • Ability to devise practical solutions to complex and risk-based problems or challenges

As a minimum, you will demonstrate:

  • Educated to degree level or significant compensatory experience
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a H&S role within the utility, engineering or construction sectors
  • Proven experience of delivering and performing H&S audits and inspections for a large business area and presenting reports
  • Proven experience of acting as H&S subject matter expert from creation of procedures to coaching the associated best practice
  • Proven experience of supporting incident investigations
