Job Description
The Finance Officer will work closely with the Senior Accountant to support financial reporting, treasury and cash management, accounting operations, internal controls, and compliance. The role will contribute to effective liquidity management, accurate financial reporting, and strong financial controls to support Nigeria's commercial operations and overall business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Budget Support
- Support the preparation of monthly business review reports, MIS, and OPEX reports for Nigeria on a timely and accurate basis.
- Support in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring spend in line with board-approved plans and set OPEX/revenue ratios.
- Support the Finance Manager on the finalization and analytical review of financial statements.
- Drive timely reporting on plan vs actual variances, including identification of key drivers.
Treasury, Cash & Insurance Management
- Support the monitoring of daily liquidity position and supplier payments.
- Manage daily cash and bank transactions, ensuring accurate recording and reconciliation.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow requirements to maintain sufficient liquidity for operations.
Accounting Operations
- Manage the Order-to-Cash (O2C) process, ensuring transactions are correctly recorded, analyzed, and controlled.
- Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) reconciliations to ensure balance sheet accuracy.
- Partner with Global Finance on intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and FX revaluations.
- Ensure proper documentation and implementation of financial controls across accounting cycles.
Inventory & Grant Management
- Support inventory controls and management reporting, ensuring timely visibility into inventory positions in Nigeria.
- Support all grant-related activities, ensuring accurate recording, monitoring, and reporting of grant transactions.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Support the Finance Manager in ensuring effective financial controls are in place and operating across the business unit.
- Implement and monitor internal controls related to cash, treasury, and accounting processes.
- Ensure accounting is in accordance with Nigerian regulatory requirements.
- Support accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Lead and support the closure of statutory, tax, internal, and external audits.
- Discuss audit queries with auditors and ensure timely closure of all audit issues.
Cost & Performance Analysis
- Drive visibility into management cost accounting, project margin analysis, value chains, and other key financial metrics.
- Identify, escalate, and support resolution of financial, cash handling, and compliance risks.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with strong business acumen.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in cash management, or a similar role.
- Familiarity with MBC ERP system and Vena is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Nigeria Tax regulations.
- Reporting, preferably in FMCG or similar industries.
