Job Description

The Senior Buyer manages forecasting, procurement, logistics, and materials requisitioning to support the business. This includes maintaining accurate Bills of Material (BOM), negotiating pricing and terms for materials, placing and adjusting purchase orders to align with project schedules, and serving as the primary point of contact for material requests from the field. The Senior Buyer maintains strong supplier relationships, coordinates with Operations on material status, supports inventory management activities, and identifies and qualifies new suppliers and products.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • In conjunction with Procurement Manager and Senior Leadership, competitively source, negotiate, and procure materials to improve cost, quality, and service levels, including negotiation of materials.
  • Place, release, and adjust purchase orders with suppliers in accordance with NetSuite requirements and project schedules.
  • Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships; routinely reviewing performance; and resolving delivery, quality, or service issues.
  • Reschedule deliveries, expedites, deferrals, and cancellations with suppliers to support changing operational requirements.
  • Serve as functional backup to the Procurement Manager or other individuals as needed and support special projects as assigned.

Inventory, Materials Planning, & Logistics

  • Manage forecasting, procurement, logistics, and materials requisitioning activities to support business operations.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels and stocking programs in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage logistical services and material movement between warehouse locations.
  • Manage the RMA (returned goods) process to ensure timely resolution and inventory accuracy.
  • Participate in cycle counts, physical inventories, and other inventory control activities as directed.

Operational Support & Systems Coordination

  • Be readily available to respond to inbound requests and urgent operational needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for material-related requests from the field, providing clear status updates and viable solutions, including checking inventory availability and initiating procurement as needed.
  • Collaborate with Design and Operations teams to ensure accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and perform BOM adjustments to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Enter or adjust sales orders in NetSuite to support warehouse picking and fulfillment activities via RF Smart.

Skills/Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in purchasing, field service materials sales, or related field preferred or equivalent communication or education and relevant work experience considered.
  • Experience in and working knowledge of solar or electrical industries, electrical materials, and construction components (preferred).
  • Proven experience with multi-site operations in businesses in excess of $25M revenue.
  • Thorough understanding of ERP/MRP techniques and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Thorough understanding of supply planning techniques

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficiency with ERP and spreadsheets, such as NetSuite.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite/Google Workspace (Slides, Sheets, Calendar, Forms, Docs, Gmail) or related software.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time exempt salaried (not overtime eligible) position with an expected base annual salary range $65,000 - $80,000 (Depending on Qualifications & Experience).
  • Hybrid: This position is eligible to work a combination of in-office work at AES headquarters (St. Paul, MN) and remote/work from home eligibility: (*Note: this is subject to change by management based on company and business needs, may or may not be eligible until 90+ days of employment/training period completion, will be determined and agreed on by management and employee, and contingent upon employees being in good standing).
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (company core hours). This position and the working schedule offers flexibility and may require additional hours outside of normal working hours including but not limited to mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • PTO accrual per hour will be .03847, up to 80 hours annually (120 hours annually after year 1).
