What They Do
Eurelectric is the leading sector association representing the European electricity industry, encompassing generation, distribution, and supply. Unlike traditional energy companies, Eurelectric focuses on policy advocacy for decarbonization and electrification rather than direct project development or technology deployment (source: eurelectric.org). The organization has evolved significantly since its formation in 1989, transitioning from representing vertically integrated national monopolies to embracing market-driven approaches in the post-liberalization era of the EU power sector. This shift has seen Eurelectric advocate for a carbon-neutral electricity mix by mid-century, reflecting a commitment to sustainable energy practices (source: energymonitor.ai).
Projects & Track Record
Eurelectric does not execute infrastructure projects but plays a crucial role in influencing energy policy and advocating for sustainable practices within the electricity sector. Its initiatives include the launch of the RE-Source platform partnership and the EVision Business Hub, which facilitates discussions among utilities, technology firms, and policymakers (source: wikipedia.org). The organization also publishes the Power Barometer reports, which track progress towards carbon neutrality, and has been active in expanding its business hubs to include areas like AI and e-mobility. Key members include national associations and major companies such as Fortum and Engie, which benefit from Eurelectric's advocacy and networking opportunities (source: eurelectric.org).
Recent Developments
In recent years, Eurelectric has undergone significant leadership changes, with Markus Rauramo of Fortum taking over as President on June 2, 2025. This transition is part of a broader strategy to prioritize customer-driven electrification, energy security, and digital transformation, as outlined in the Presidency Manifesto (source: eurelectric.org). The organization has also received accolades for its data visualization efforts, winning the Best Data Visualisation award at the Lens Video Awards 2023, and has previously been recognized for its online conference and communications campaigns. These achievements highlight Eurelectric's commitment to effective advocacy and engagement within the electricity sector (source: handwiki.org).
Working There
Eurelectric offers a range of roles primarily focused on policy, advocacy, and administration within its Brussels headquarters. The secretariat employs approximately 40 staff members, including policy experts, event specialists, and data analysts who contribute to various organizational units and committees (source: eurelectric.org). The organization values backgrounds in renewables and climate, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Hiring occurs exclusively at the Brussels HQ, and candidates can apply through LinkedIn or the Eurelectric careers page (source: eurelectric.org). The culture emphasizes transparency, societal engagement, and expert-driven initiatives, fostering an environment where staff can actively contribute to the future of the electricity sector.
