Job Description

The Solar Installer is responsible for hands-on system installation, ensuring site safety, prepping job sites, providing high-quality and an exceptional customer experience, and assisting in resolving on-site issues as needed. This role is hands-on and growth-oriented for candidates interested in the solar industry or electrical field of work.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Prepare job sites for solar installations, ensuring all areas are safe, organized, and ready for work.
  • Perform physical installation of solar systems and equipment, including mounting racking, assembling components, wire management, and installing electrical equipment.
  • Skillfully use power tools, ladders, digging equipment, and other installation tools in accordance with safety plans and guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure job site throughout all phases of installation.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that arise during installation to ensure project quality and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding installation progress and job status.
  • Maintain inventory and security of company-issued tools and equipment; report any discrepancies, damage, or losses to a supervisor.
  • Take responsibility for personal, crew, and electrical safety by adhering to and enforcing all site safety plans, policies, and regulations.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience working with hand tools and power tools (preferred; employees may be required to provide a basic toolkit).
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working on rooftops.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and able to think creatively to solve on-site challenges.
  • Ability and willingness to drive a company vehicle and/or trailer for work-related purposes; and meet the company's driving standards/requirements.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
    • Must successfully complete and clear an MVR (motor vehicle report) background screen.
    • Must complete, obtain, and maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) Medical Certification, as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable working extended hours in extreme environments/climate (cold, heat, wind, etc) (frequent).
  • Regularly encounter pitched roofs, at heights (with proper safety gear).
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, and lifting (frequent).
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50-75 pounds. at a time (frequent).
  • Must be able to transport and drive for short and long distances for work related events/job sites and be able to travel with crew for occasional overnight, or multiple night, trips within our service area (including but not limited to: IL, IA, MN, WI).

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time position with an expected starting pay rate of $20.00 per hour, with additional opportunities for pay increases at 90 days and 180 days based on performance.
  • Voluntary enrollment in company sponsored Electrical Apprentice Training program (after 1st season).
  • PTO accrual per hour will be .03847, up to 80 hours annually (120 hours annually after year 1).
