Cundall's Doha Office prides itself on its exemplary track record of delivering innovative, sustainable, and energy-efficient design solutions for some of Qatar's largest and most challenging construction projects. To support our expanding operations in the Middle East, we are seeking to appoint a talented and qualified Lead Architect to join our team.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Architect with a strong architectural background to join our dynamic team. This role involves leading architectural design and delivery for large-scale, international projects across the region.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing large, complex projects and coordinating closely with clients, with demonstrable experience delivering projects in the Gulf region. Extensive experience and a high level of proficiency in Revit are essential, including the ability to lead and coordinate BIM-based design workflows.
Given the highly collaborative nature of this role, excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Crucially, you will share Cundall's passion for creative, sustainable, and intuitive design.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design of complex, high-profile projects from concept through to completion.
- Act as the main authority on projects, overseeing creative, technical compliance, general quality, and design integrity.
- Collaborate closely with the various engineering departments (ie MEP, structural, sustainability) to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
- Supervise junior architects, BIM technicians, and design team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Represent Cundall in client meetings, design reviews, and presentations; build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Prepare technical reports in accordance with clients' briefs.
- Lead the production of design documentation and specifications, ensuring quality and compliance with local and international standards.
- Help define and improve design workflows, BIM standards, and quality control processes.
- Support the office managers with business development efforts by contributing to bids, proposals, and client presentations.
- Report regularly to the Head of the Department on the performance of projects against agreed project plans and budgets.
- Comply with project management, Operational (QA), Environmental and Health and Safety procedures.
The Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture (RIBA or equivalent chartered status preferred).
- Minimum 15 years of experience, with a strong portfolio of built work in the Middle East (Qatar, KSA, UAE).
- Proven experience leading design on large-scale, fast-track, mixed-use, hospitality, commercial, or high-end residential projects.
- Experience in interior design is a plus
- Highly organized, proactive, and responsible, with strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Strong coordination and team management skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with a client-focused mindset
- Proven expertise in Revit for both Architecture and Interior Design (BIM test will be conducted after the interview)
- Experience in managing design documentation, from concept to IFC and construction stages
- Solid understanding of Qatar Construction Standards (QCS) and all local authority regulations, including ADA, NFPA & QCDD
- Fluency in design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, and Photoshop), SketchUp; strong visual and presentation skills.
- Passion for sustainable, human-centered design aligned with Cundall's commitment to net zero and design excellence.
- MMUP grade A is preferable for this role.
