Approximately 40 employees (source: rocketreach.co). No confirmed revenue data for 2023+, but a projection of over €800,000 for 2025 (source: fundernation.eu).
What They Do
Kitepower is an innovative Dutch startup focused on airborne wind energy systems. The company utilizes large, controllable kites tethered to ground-based generators. These kites fly in a figure-eight pattern at altitudes of up to 350 meters to harness stronger winds at higher elevations (source: thekitepower.com). Their flagship product is the containerized 100 kW Falcon system, developed from a 20 kW prototype. This system is designed for rapid deployment and can be rented, making it appealing for temporary energy needs in construction and other sectors (source: thekitepower.com). Target markets include construction, remote locations, and military applications, employing a model for energy as a service (source: thekitepower.com).
Projects & Track Record
Kitepower has completed several notable projects, including the deployment of the 100 kW Falcon system during a military exercise in 2021 in Aruba, marking the first test outside of Europe (source: defencefinancemonitor.substack.com). Currently, the company is involved in a long-term campaign at the AWE test site of RWE Renewables in Bangor Erris, Mayo, Ireland, where they are working on developing autonomous flight capabilities (source: awetrain.eu). Additionally, six commercial agreements have been signed for the rental of their systems, with another fourteen in the pipeline, highlighting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions (source: tudelft.nl).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, Kitepower has announced a rental strategy aimed at early European customers, with expected revenue of over €800,000 in 2025 from a fleet of 20 units (source: thekitepower.com). They have also launched operations in Ireland in collaboration with RWE, expanding their geographical presence (source: fundernation.eu). Furthermore, while no mergers or acquisitions have been reported, the company has recently attracted impact investments building on previous funding from Horizon 2020 and YES!Delft (source: cbinsights.com).
Careers at Kitepower
Kitepower offers a range of positions at their headquarters in Delft, including roles in Software, Hardware, Operations, and Sales, as well as Research and legal positions (source: fundernation.eu). The company culture focuses on agile development with quarterly goals and bi-weekly cycles, contributing to a dynamic work environment (source: yesdelft.com). All job openings are based in Delft, with no mention of remote work or other locations (source: rocketreach.co).

- Consider EMC, signal integrity, grounding, protection, and manufacturability
- Integrate electrical systems at system level, including sensors and actuators
- Support electrical installation and system-level integration
Hardware & Mechanical Engineering
- Design and develop multi-component mechanical systems, considering loads, tolerances, interfaces, and DFM/DFA principles
- Create production-ready CAD assemblies (Onshape) with proper tolerancing and manufacturing methods
- Define and implement test setups for components and subsystems
- Design experiments, analyze data, and identify root causes of failures
Software & Systems
- Contribute to embedded and system-level software, primarily in C++
- Support integration of hardware and software, including diagnostics and fail-safes
- Collaborate on control systems and system interfaces
- Analyze field data and failure cases to improve system robustness
You will work on
- Kite Control Units (KCU)
- Ground station hardware
- Mechatronic subsystems and structural components
- Integrated hardware-software systems deployed rapidly in the field
Your profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong experience in hardware development across mechanical and/or electrical domains
- Hands-on mindset with the ability to take designs from concept to deployment
- Proficiency in CAD (preferably Onshape)
- Experience with testing, validation, and troubleshooting
- Programming experience in C++ (embedded or system-level)
Nice to have
Experience with renewable energy systems (AWE is a strong plus)
Knowledge of aerodynamics and performance analysis
Experience with battery systems, energy storage, or power electronics
