ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia and they are all remotely operated from our Regional Control Centre. With a nearly 30-year history in the Western Australia, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.
The RCC Operator provides daily control and decision making of the Power Stations and here is a chance to build on and future proof your skills. Move between open and combined cycle plants with a mix of reciprocating engines, steam and gas turbines. Operate within an islanded network or be part of the peak demands on the state grid. Get prepared for the integration of solar and BESS.
The base location for this residential position is at TransAlta's Parkeston Power Station in Kalgoorlie, is shift work with a current roster of 2 days, 2 nights and 4 off and local candidates looking to progress their careers are preferred.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Manage the system in the most cost effective manner, maintaining safety of personnel
- Detailed work orders on plant malfunctions will be created for planning of repairs
- Record all relevant data collected after abnormal events, i.e. alarm logs, event logs + trends etc.
- Log keeping of a high standard
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with plant equipment
- Participate in incident investigations providing expert opinion in areas of expertise
- Training of new staff members in the operations department
- Daily collaboration with maintenance staff on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
- Candidates with a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) in Turbine Operations (TO) and Advanced Boiler (BA) will be highly regarded.
